Re: [Merged] *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please
BT to rollout new speeds to residential customers on the 17th February and business customers on 1st April 2005 according to the BBC.
ntl have surely got to follow suit soon otherwise there surely taking the risk of losing new subscribers?

Fair point mate. I don't expect them to, but business logic says they should upgrade sooner rather than later....then again, this is ntl

The vast majority of NTL customers don't give a damn whether BT beats NTL. They are not bothered about the caps (not that most of them know about them) or faster and faster speeds. They have a service that does all that they want it to at a reasonable price and get a reasonable service. They are not bothered about ping times, tracerts and lagging. All that some customers want is an always on service that doesn't tie up the phoneline and at a reasonable price. Some don't want a service that's brilliant for gaming as they don't want their kids tied to the computer for most of their lives. These customers won't leave NTL because someone else has a faster, uncapped service. They are happy with what they have got.

I totally agree with your post how ever I want a service were by I get billed correctly so NTL has clearly failed in that department and I am now looking else where dispite all the promises of discount this discount that and still being over billed each month for my broadband services.
Sorry for the Hi-Jack but no ones listerning in the BILLING AREA

A lot of people aren't getting that 'reasonable service'. And a lot of people are led by what others tell them, people that DO know about things like caps, etc. A lot of people are also led by advertising, and families that use the computer between them all, WILL be influenced by an advert telling them they don't have to worry about watching what they download.

Re: [Merged] *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please
the sad truth is ianuthuth is right, I dont agree with the way ntl works, but they are taking advantage of people who lack in knowledge and just look at the price hence targeting the budget user.
I agree with DieDieMyDarling as well, any company with a bad reputation will suffer as word spreads around and people are more likely to take the word of a family member or good friend over a sales person and tv advert, this will be a short term gain for ntl and a long term mess.

I think in a few months if BT is selling 2mb for £25 and NTL is still giving out 750 for the same price then that could be an problem!
And as BT will soon be advertising their products with usage allowances of 1GB, 15GB, 30GB or unlimited, this will make caps/allowances no longer something hidden in the small print and therefore something people will concern themselves about when choosing a product.

It would seem that BT are picking the pace up now.
