ok, let's explain this again

NOBODY IS YET ON THE NEW SPEEDS

the work you are referring to is network upgrades to make the new speeds possible, this may, or may not, have happened in certain areas. When the new speeds are launched you will know about it. The official documentation (ie the investors report) states that there will be a £25 fee. Whether this will or will not be implemented i do not know- some say it will, some don't, choose to believe what you like.

Also with regard to capping, the official documentation states that there will be caps- again believe any other unofficial information that you wish to, but at the moment the only thing i would take as official is the press release and investors report.

no need to be rude - was only asking, my friends speed increased to over 300kbytes/sec. and i dont read every single post. see blueyonder anounced ages before the upgrades they gonna do it, ntl never do until the last minute and alot dident even know about it after the upgrades had happend last time.

Yeah getting advance notice of future improvements is indeed good PR.

Although I dont fault Telewest for doing things differently, I think NTL were smart to make us aware of where they were going to be taking us within a few months.

BT wholesale did a similar thing this week when they announced their plans for ADSL (possible) speed improvements over the next 12 months.

Re: [Merged] *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please

AAAAARGH

There have been no speed increases anywhere in the country, any prep work that has been done apart from resegmentation will have been done nationally not regionally.

This is getting really boring now having to disagree with vague people who in thomson's case have varied from sales staff, call centre staff, people at ntl HQ (Hook presumably?) and now ntl Glasgow.

I suspect that these upgrades will be released to all areas at the same time, and I have an idea of a date but sorry to disappoint I'm certainly NOT discussing it here.

Also I'd say that Telewest's way of doing things was better, amongst other things it saves annoying people making them wait, not to mention of course demonstrating competence and giving a good impression that the company has capacity to spare.

Ignition that was my point, NTL are not at fault for taking longer they are at fault for announcing it months before they can roll it out, they should have stayed quiet and announced it in march/april/may or whenever they plan to roll it out.

but ... . but .... . ..

oh it is NTL after all,

didn't they re-define 'coming soon' as anytime in the next millenium

maybe the Q1 2005 announcement refers to the actual "time" that the button will be pushed to launch the new config files onto the systems and the Q1 is missing the year, after all NTL are famous for announcing 'stuff' either out of hours or at close of business on a weekend

Also to add to my questions that no one has answered. From what I gather, you'll need a new stb to cope with the faster speeds. So. If you don't know the network has been upgraded because it's not automatic and you have a pace stb will you ever know about speed upgrades? If so, how? I'm still waiting for ntl to tell me that the cable in the road that i subscribed to seven years ago is now in operation!!!

no offence but if ntl let customers know what was going on there wouldent be all these people asking the same questions and you getting angry. Of course people will ask if you just increae random streets speed and dont even inform them of the plans imo thats stupid

There is nothing going on that requires customers to do anything so just sit back and chill out until an announcement is made. You will hear about it on here as soon as the team know anything.

People will continue to ask the same questions no matter how clear the situation is made. If I had a pound for every time a question is asked that has been asked before and the answer given I would probably have enough to buy out NTL . Likewise if I lost a pound for everytime the search function was used I wouldn't lose much .

Re: [Merged] *ALL* Speed Upgrade Discussion In Here Please

That is true people do ask Questions but if they was sent a E-mail saying so and so areas will be upgraded for testing, i am sure it will hold off alot of the Questions. Months after the update to 1.5Mb my friend at work who uses ntl still did not even know there was such a connection 1.5MB until i told him.
