ntl dialup is disconnecting for no reason
this problem is starting to really annoy me now. i dial up my connection on xp, it seems to have connected fine. but then the main times ive noticed that it disconnects is when i use msn 7. it is impossible to use as as soon as i log in it will disconnect. it does it with windows messanger but not as much. its as if it cant take the strain of it or something and when i get doing more then a few things it will disconnect.

Hi blunty,
I can't help you with your problem I'm afraid, just wanted to give this a friendly *bump* and to say to CF.
Hopefully somebody will be along soon who can help but in the meantime just sit back, kick off your shoes, relax, and enjoy your stay
Cheers,
Raist

Sounds like an issue with your PC or dialup modem I'm afraid, what you are passing through ntl dialup shouldn't really have any bearing on whether or not the connection stays up - it's just a modem on the other side.

Re: ntl dialup is disconnecting for no reason
I appear to be having a similar problem, The system connects fine but will for no reason disconnect fairly randomly and it usually takes several atempts to stay online. I'm also using the Beta MSN 7 Messager, but seems unusual that it does work later.
My first suspects were that it could be a worm, but my system appears to be clean. This also happens on my laptop so its not my hardware or set up as there have been no changes. It doesn't seem to have this problem though when i connect the same laptop up to NTL broadband.
I've heard one or two friends mention the same sort of problem but i don't know the set up or services they use on there respective systems.
So kinda has been clueless too

Re: ntl dialup is disconnecting for no reason
It's most probably a problem with the Ntl modem interface. I get cut off occasionly for no good reason but not as much as you seem to be experiencing. Your calls are routed to a bank of Modems and if one of these modem cards go faulty then all sorts of weird things happen. Logs are generated and usually if one card seems to be failing a lot of connections it is taken out of service either by itself or the internet NMC until it can be replaced. The interfaces Ntl use are not the most reliable!!

Well, I didn't want to be too rude about it. It has improved in recent weeks.

Re: ntl dialup is disconnecting for no reason
If you plug a phone into the phone line where your modem plugs in, is there any noise on the line eg clicks or crackling noise?

Re: ntl dialup is disconnecting for no reason
no problems with the line... all is clear, no noises down the line either.
The problem would appear to be more their end, and ii've noticed very poor conection speeds....
