NTL box just doesn't respond!

Brother had NTL installed a month ago into a new flat and has finally moved in. He connected up the Samsung box to the TV line today and it just does nothing apart from display a white screen saying "NTL HOME". On the box's display it says: LD00 then changes to LD03 and finally gets stuck at LD30 and just does nothing. If you push the up or down button on the box the screen goes black and the display lights go on the box.

What on earth is up with it?

Re: NTL box just doesn't respond!

The first time a box is hooked up and turned on, it has to download software from the network (at least the boxes I have had did). When it is doing this, the digital display on the front counts upward. The fact it's doing this suggests two possibilities, one is that the box is faulty and the other is that the connection is faulty.

His best bet would be to phone customer services. They may be able to get it working remotely ("pushing" the software on to it, not sure if they can do this), but more than likely they will need to send an engineer to look at it.
