o2 and 0844 numbers

i am quite concerned that after ringing o2 about 4 times plus asking at the o2 shop that nobody knows for certain whether 0844 numbers come out of bundled minutes on O2 LEISURE TIME PLUS.

the first three people i have rung didnt know but when pressed for an answer went to ask and came back saying that they come out of bundled minutes.
however i just phoned o2 now because i had a bill and they said bill is just for line rental as i just joined them yesterday and they will be able to see call usuage in a few days. i asked the person abt 0844 numbers and he said yes they are charged and dont come out of free minutes

all the information i read on websites says they come out of bundled minutes.

i am so concerned because i have bought this contract purely to ring 0844 numbers off peak. my wife to be lives in guatemala and i ring her by dialing an 0844 number. if i dialled this on a landline id be charged 5p a minute at all times. i can ring this number on o2 pay as you go online talkalot mobiles at weekends for 2p a minute. everything i have read says 0844 numbers get treated as a standard uk fixed call.

i feel furious that people r so ignorant abt 0844 numbers especially people working in a call centre for o2.

CAN ANYONE WITH LEISURETIME PLUS USING 0844 NUMBERS CONFIRM TO ME IF THEY COME OUT OF FREE MINUTES?

Re: o2 and 0844 numbers

normally 08** numbers are excluded from free allowances- i know o2 charge (on the online contract i have anyway) for 0845 and 0870 numbers rather than taking them out of a free allowance, but i don't know if it would be the same for your tariff...

I don't know whether they do or not, however...

Who did you actually get the phone from? When you bought it or changed service package contract, had you been told or was it mentioned on the packaging or advertising material that these numbers will come out of the bundled minutes? Did you ask about these numbers when you bought it (or were led to believe they would be ok)?

If so, and they they charge you subsequently instead of them coming out of bundled minutes (especially with you being told by three employees that they do) you can hold them in breach of contract under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 (as amended) since your phone/ contract is not "fit for purpose" or "as advertised" and you are entitled to reject it and demand your money back.

See http://www.dti.gov.uk/ccp/topics1/saleandsupply.htm for some details.

i bought the phone from o2 shop in cardiff st davids shopping centre.
i asked when i bought phone if 0844 numbers were free and they didnt know. the lady at the shop rang someone and they didnt know either. they didnt lead me to believe either way that they would be taken out of bundled minutes or they wouldnt. the literature does not mention 0844 unfortunately.
i said i would take the risk and buy the phone.

im hoping that if it turns out they are not free that i can take the phone back. hopefully they have some sort of 14 day money back guarantee. anybody know if o2 shops offer this?

i feel frustrated abt these phone companies coz bt on their website have a comprehensive list of every kind of number you ring so u can check call costs but these phone companies hide their pricing

i read that its online highstreet tariff which takes call cost out of free minutes.

see this page...

http://www.0870-dial.co.uk/

they say about 02 ...

Call to 0844 and 0870 numbers are charged as a standard call and qualify for free minutes on most contract plans, including O2 Leisure time. This gives the cheapest call possible during off peaks.
On Pay And Go (prepaid) Original Talkalot, call cost just 2p/min in the weekends and 10p/min in the evening. On PAYG Original call cost 5p/min during wekeends, same as calling a normal landline.

On O2 Online Pay And Go Talkalot, call to 0844/0870 numbers are charged at 35p/min day, 10p/min evening and 2p/min and does not follow the usual 25p for first 3 minutes and then at reduced rate

Ah, that's a bit of a problem then, because you took a chance.

Hope you manage to get it sorted out anyway.
