NTL channels changing themselves
Hi all, I have tried to find something about this but couldn't, and the search is down.
I have noticed that NTL channels sometimes change themselves.
Well to better explain it, it seems more like the feed.
Example, I was watching a programme the other night, and it was about to hit one of those parts of the programme when it is about to reveal something interesting to understand what is going on in the story, and the channel changes, The channel number stays the same, but it just goes to another channel, a couple of mins later it is back to the original programme and I have lost an important part of the thing I was watching.
This mainly happens at night, and it is random channels it happens on/to.
does anyone know why this happens?
does it happen to anyone else?
how can I stop this from happening?

Yep I've had something similar at around that time. Usually apparent when I try and switch channels then find it jumping all over the place rather than neatly scrolling up and down the favourites order. Resets iteslf after a couple of minutes, and only started recently.
I wonder if there's a dodgy software upgrade kicking about since the new year that does something weird with a daily update or refresh (and timed oddly when there will still be a good number of STBs in use, rather than the wee small hours).

I know it sounds funny, but it p*sses me off no end, especially that it is at an important part.

Re: NTL channels changing themselves
The same thing happens with my ntl service.
Usually around 12-1a.m. the channel I am watching will 'swap feed' to another channel for around 2-4 minutes. Very irritating.
I have to confess, I have noticed this most on SKY One while watching star trek at that time.
It's almost as though there is some techhie trying to spoil the sad star trek viewers enjoyment.

Re: NTL channels changing themselves
I get that also maybe it's a auto update...You'll get it at ten past one when the clocks go forward.
what i proceed to act is i put the stb on stand by 8mins past the midnight hour so it doesn't do what you stated on your post.
Hopefully this will be rectified as it is quite highly anoying...a part from that my box is kind of working well, less reboot(s),interactive is more acceptable now, about time to.
Regards.

I also get this and I think it's related to updating the programme information for the next 24 hours (or something like that). Sometimes it only lasts a few seconds but I have had it blank for over a minute before, which is incredibly annoying when you're actually watching a programme. This was a problem before CR3 and I'm sure it was mentioned that it wouldn't happen post-CR3, but I'm still suffering from it. I've never really understood why it has to be done at 0010 (or 0110 in BST), why can't it be done at 0300 or 0400?

Re: NTL channels changing themselves
We usually get a minute or two of the picture repeatedly diapapearing for a few seconds at this time. However, watching a program recorded on Tuesday night over this period, the last 20 minutes were missing.
I suspect that the picture did not come back until the TiVo forced a channel change.

Re: NTL channels changing themselves
Hi all,
Scuse me butting in, but anyone mind if I chuck my two penny-worth in on this subject!, as well?
We're all infuriated (to a greater or lesser degree!) by the (00:10/01:10) program information 'Auto update'. But has anyone noticed it appearing to get worse/more frequent/ocurring at times OTHER THAN 00:10/01:10, lately?
I have noted 'auto update' blanks (typically 30-40secs + for me) happening at about 15:10hrs and 18:10 hours (on Sunday 16th Jan , and on other days) but the FIVE separate and lngthy interruptions around the 00:10 hrs update Sunday night REALLY took the biscuit!!!
36", 42", 2'19", 39" and 46" 'blanks' at approx 23:45, 23:51, 00:05, 00:10' and 00:14 (all approx) REALLY did no end of good for my enjoyment of The French Connection on BBC1!!!! (Yes I now, how very sad to have logged them!! I must get out, or at least off the counch, more!!)
Seriously, though, anyone got any experience on trying to get a day's reimbursement out of NTL (I won't hold my breath!!); anyone else suffer this, err, 'enjoyment' to their viewing, and any definitive confirmation on whether this should (or should NOT) still be happening (AND appearing to be getting worse) on CR3 (at least, I think that's what I'm on - it's blue/yellow on-screen grafix replacing the 'old' 'orrible purple)
I'm in the GU51 (Fleet/Hampshire) location incidentally.
Any mods or anyone with definitive knowledge from within NTL care to comment? (Polite suggestions only, though, please!!)
Happy viewing
Disgruntled from Fleet
