New offer
I've just had NTL phone up my mum (account in her name, but i spoke to the dude) offering us a TV package.... We currently just have 750k Internet and the 123 phone thing...
The guy on the phone was offering to add on a call package, for all calls that are done off peak and weekends... apprently saving us around £5 per month... as according to the dudewe mostly use the phone off peak... and spend about £10 or so on calls...
he said if we take up the call package (apprently saving us around £5), we'd also get free TV, the box, installtion, subscription all free for a year...
Sounded like a decent package, but they called just as my mum had to leave for work, and i convinced the dude we'd have to think about it and he'd hopeuflly call back tomorrow...
Before we hung, i forgot to ask... does any know if the TV service we'd get is any good? would have any decent channels or just a load of basic free ones, similar to freeview...
Another reason i'm skeptical is because for majority, if not all calls, we've been using www.call18866.co.uk, and using the 0808 access...(1/2p per min to uk land lines)... for the last 3 months or so, so i'm not sure where the £10 of calls is coming from... it was true that almost all calls are off peak, and using the NTL, no more dialing 0808 would be good for my mum...
Bascially... do people think its worth agreeing to this new package? i guess we coudl just use the 18866.co.uk for when my mum phones relatives in the philippines... and having the tv woudl be good... but only if it had some decent channel ??

Re: New offer
your mum is probably being offered the Talk Unlimited BOGOF offer, which costs an extra £9 per month - and you get the Base pack free for a year (worth £10 per month)
the base has all the freeview channels, plus sky one, e4, british eurosports, and you get 3 guest channels each month.

Re: New offer
it's nationwide. it's advertised in the RadioTimes and on ntl's website. call them up and see what they can offer you.

EDIT: are you currently and ntl subscriber?

Sorry, just to clarify, what do you mean by "it is cheaper if u have a BT line"? Do you mean BT is cheaper or its cheaper if you use this service and your on BT already?

Call 18866
If you have a BT line and use call 18866 all calls to UK landlines (but not 0845 etc.) are free (but there might be a 1p connection charge!!)so it is definitely cheaper I also find that calls abroad are pretty cheap, 2p a minute to France and 3p a minute to Cyprus. When my BT line was faulty it worked well with my NTL line but I had to dial another number first so whatever you have I'd recommend giving it a go.

Basically what number34 said...
All calls that connect have a 1p connection charge... however if you using a BT line thats call you pay when calling a uk landline, however the long the... u could be there for min, hours etc and only pay 1p... on NTL/Telewest, you ahve to pay the 1p connection charge then 1/2p per min...

Is it really THAT much cheaper to do it through that number?
My wife calls there using phone cards and generally gets about an hour & a half for a £5 card plus the 1p per minute which is the uk part of the call.

Yes and no...
my family has tried using many calling cards, mainly South East Asia (orange color)... and they charged 15p per min to call filipino Mobile, and 12p per min to call filipino land lines...
However with its Call18866, it costs the same 15p per min to call mobiles, but to land lines its only 9p...
3p per min cheaper may not be a lot... but it does add up the more you use it.. also you don't have to worry about running out of credit on the card, or having to goto the shop to purchase more cards when you run it... I spose another reason for using call18866.co.uk is for convience as well as to save a lil bit of money... both call18866 and most cards hav 0808, 0845 and 020 access phoen numbers...
