Price?
Hi all
New to this forum, and from what I have read some members dont like threads on Capping...well, if that is you, gimme a chance eh?
Right: NTL Capping. On the 2Mb service-to-be, with the 30GB monthly cap...if they do stick to that, and charge extra for each GB downloaded, what does everyone think the price will be?
I have no idea as to how much the 'going' rate is for GB's, I just wanna know what kinda price to expect. I am currently ranging from 5GB permonth - 30GB per month, depending on what project I am working on.
Also, what are the chances that NTL will cut service completely if one goes over the cap limit? Little, or fair, etc?
Thanks for taking the time
Regards
BM

Re: Price?
Who knows the best bet is to wait till ntl announce their plans and this will explain all, or we could be talking about what they could be doing forever

Re: Price?
Any plans haven't been publicly announced yet, so there's no way you'll find out from this forum. Your best bet would be to take a look at other providers who offer capped services, and see what they charge. Wanadoo, for example, say they will restrict your usage if you go over the limit. Tiscali, on the other hand, charge £1.50 per GB (or part thereof) over the limit for their metered packages.

Pass, I've seen between £1.25 and £2.50 per GB upwards on other providers. BT Broadband are looking at around the £2.00 mark.

Slim, most common things done to people over their limit are a webpage informing you of the fact and asking you to click a button to agree to calm down before you can use service again, then one of the following if you don't(Canada), throttling you down to dialup speeds (Australia, US and others), or email informing you're past limit and requesting you slow down or further action taken (Various).
Some providers also warn by email if you hit 50 or 75% of limit considerably before expected.
Hope this helps, and as a reminder none of this is based on any knowledge I may have of the actual service itself, I'm illustrating what others nationally and worldwide do.

Re: Price?
Thanks for the replies.
£2-£2.50 isnt that bad, I was expecting more so if NTL stick to that range (which I reckon they probably will) then I will be satisfied. As stated before, I may only go over the limit by 1-2 GB's every so often anyway, so its not too bad.
