Rumours that TalkTalk was nearing the end of its run have circulated in the industry for some time, and BT’s newly proposed acquisition has now confirmed it. This move significantly strengthens BT's already dominant position in the UK broadband market.

Just another example of the financial shortcomings regarding private equity

Re: BT agrees rescue deal to buy broadband operator TalkTalk

Seeing as BT own Openreach and TalkTalks network is mostly Openreach the only thing BT actually gains is an on paper business and access to customers on altnets which I guess is a big plus for them

TalkTalk routes a lot of there services through VM and Vodafone not just Openreach so expect some disruption as they move away for VM and Vodafone and just use the Openreach network.

What do Vodafone own other than a 5G network? I did say they use altnets but I only knew they used Cityfibre and Hyperoptic.

My Voda BB is through Openreach my 5G BB through them indirectly using Lebara

Yes, imagine that! They'll be in safe hands with BT.

Probably not short term, everything will continue to work just as before. Inevitably though, BT will want to consolidate provision, reduce duplicates, and that maybe, maybe, will cause disruption. But that is for ‘future BT’ to deal with, not right now.

Longer term, I expect the ‘talktalk’ brand to vanish, and existing customers are moved to a BT platform. What that means for their email provision, who can tell. In theory nothing at all, as BT now presumably owns the various talktalk domain names and can maintain them albeit maybe move the physical email servers to ones they own.

However, no business purchases another business just to ‘keep things exactly as they are’. If TT was not profitable, but BT decided to purchase it, they must, absolutely must, have plans.

Re: BT agrees rescue deal to buy broadband operator TalkTalk

Bear in mind that over time, TT took over the broadband services of Tiscali, AOL UK, Tesco, SSE, Shell Energy, and Origin. So their systems are quite possibly a complete mishmash, and it might take a while for BT to absorb the customer base.
