My brother lives just the other side of the Scotland/England border, he says most people in his area take short(ish) trips to Carlisle for a fair bit of (mainly alcoholic) stuff

yeah I buy from Amazon too. That is a crazy increase

So Amazon dont have to charge you the Unit Price ?

Have you never had an Amazon account? I order most of my stuff from there although I don't touch Alcohol much.

I joined them way back in 2002, when they basically just did books.
These days I'm sure our house keeps the Amazon drivers around here in work, multiple deliveries every week.

No they don’t, because technically, you aren’t buying it in Wales, (or Scotland), you are buying from ‘an entity’ with no presence there.

Hypothetically if you lived in Wales (close to the English border to make it worth while), popped across, loaded up your car boot with gin and then drove back - you are not going to be stopped and made to pay the difference.

Similarly order from Amazon, the actual ‘purchase’ might be legally in Dublin, or London, or Norwich, just the delivery is somewhere in Cardiff. And the rules state that the ‘purchase’ has to be made in Wales.

Lots of other options for booze then but amazons normal spirit price is normally pretty good if you are not fussy in brands. Got to say though it is punishing venues and stores
