Hello Jem, thanks for your reply. I agree with all that you say. However, I can't believe it's a huge amount for VM to keep the service. Also if other email providers did this, there would be public outrage.

I do feel let down by Virgin. The product itself was/is good, it was "sold" to me when I signed up AND if it wasn't for this forum I wouldn't have know this was imminent.

I haven’t and neither have my relatives. I have a feeling someone else I know with cable email address doesn’t either, I only mentioned it to them yesterday in a message and haven’t had a response since.

I only found out about it because of this forum.

Some of the comms from VM have suggested they are doing this in stages rather than all at once as they said “through September” in one place on their website Q&A as I recall.

Given they are only giving 45 days from when they initiate it for each account (plus a few months longer to restore if you miss comms) it really isn’t good customer service, regardless of how few use their email these days.

Said it was happening with in stages . Haven't seen anything but ntlworld is not working at all , noted on other forums that quite a few people are having the same problem

Strange - I can still access my ntlworld email account (nothing in it, as it’s not used for anything - the VM bills are sent to my VM/O2 consolidated a/c email address).

I left VM almost 2 years ago now, but I can still connect to mine, via POP.
Nothing but Spam these days, so I only pull from it manually, once a week.

I think the name Virgin is even dafter. It started with Virgin Megastore but why the name is beyond me.

Having said that, it worked for Branson - so if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I think the reference is to the original Virgin brand naming. When NTL and TeleWest merged with Virgin Mobile, the new organisation paid to use the Virgin branding - hence Virgin Media. Presumably they thought that being associated with the Virgin branding would be a positive.

In the latter part of the now defunct VM community forum, people still believed that it was run by Branson and said that they would complain to him personally about their poor service. It is possible that VM's reputation for poor customer support has damaged the Virgin brand name.

NTL and Telewest bought up all of the UK's cablecos bar two small ones and then NTL bought Telewest. NTL then bought Virgin Mobile UK and obtained a 30-year licensing right until 2036 from Virgin Enterprises giving the rebranded group exclusive rights to use the Virgin name for TV, broadband, fixed-line telephone and mobile services across the UK and Ireland. On 8 February 2007, by special resolution NTL Group Limited was renamed Virgin Media Limited and thus Virgin Media legally came into existence on that date.

Also on that date the owner of NTL Group, NTL Incorporated, itself changed its name to Virgin Media Inc. When Liberty Global bought Virgin Media Inc. in 2013, this gained total ownership of all underlying subsidiaries, including Virgin Media Limited (the primary UK operating company).
