Internet Tax To Fund The BBC!

So I think it's plainly obvious by now, I don't hold back, I say it how it is and if you don't like it well, sorry but it's true and I will not sugar coat things for the sake of the "I don't like the truth it hurts my feelings" crowd.

The BBC has had and still has Liars, Thieves, Rapists and Pedo's working there, who knows how many because we as TV Tax payers have and are funding the cover ups, that have happened and are still happening to this day!

Forgive me if there is a thread for the Tv Tax already, I did look for one but couldn't find it.

It seems though that another think tank/nut job activist group are recommending to scrap the license fee and instead force a tax on the Internet connections for UK Residents!

This is just one source for it: OC3D
https://overclock3d.net/news/misc/11...e-alternative/

Basically it will mean that you have to pay the wages for all the staff at the BBC, including the liars, thieves, rapists, pedophiles and other criminals regardless of whether you want to or not, so long as you have an Internet Connection you will be paying for them!

So the only way if this goes through to not pay for it, is to basically not have the Internet or at least not have an internet connection from the UK as good luck to the power hungry Ofcom telling the likes of Germany and America that they must charge their customers more because they might be accessing content in the UK!

All this to apparently keep producing the "world-class TV" that has killed once great TV Shows like Dr Who and producing content that pays terrorist's for interviews, that produces content that has to be corrected, removed and then have an apology written although that is never fully made public as the false information is quickly removed from the site to avoid public scrutiny.

I will tell you something now, if this does actually come in and get put in place, I will be looking at an Internet source from another country because I will not be paying more for Internet to pay for something that the BBC have no involvement in, the only reason we pay the TV Tax now as it is, is because my Mum refuses to use Plex, Netflix, Prime or Disney+ and instead watches practically nothing but the Movies24 or what ever it is channel, despite the same films being repeated every couple of hours on rotating days.

Re: Internet Tax To Fund The BBC!

That suggestion has been around for years. The Daily Fail resurrrected it today as they are a bit lazy and were due another anti BBC 'story'.

We're going to pay one way or another. General taxation seems fair if people don't want the licence fee as its unlike other broadcasters and has a public service remit.

They get away with stealing money now from people for content they have no involvement in, for doing nothing but existing so this wouldn't be anything new for them.

Since we also have spineless and toothless regulators as well as Governments that were/are spineless and toothless when it comes to the BBC they will just leave them to it and give them what they want.

The problem with the £11 or whatever they decide on though is that it will need to be for all Internet connections, so your car even though technically you cannot use it for TV etc, someone will find a way, then your mobile phone because you can use that, then you smart devices that have a built in sim so in the end you could be looking at upwards of £50 a month depending on number of devices, I am sure the BBC would love that instead of the current mere in their eyes £15 a month, they need the extra money to add to the billions they get from selling shows abroad, they have got to make the money somehow to pay off the victims of their stars and the extortionate salaries they pay them.

The aim of the BBC and the nutjobs like "The Social Market Foundation" is that we all pay for one source of information and that there is only one source of information and that is the BBC and we currently have a Government who is in the process of trying to make that happen, as mentioned a while ago in the OSA Thread.

What I think though is that the Government will just give the BBC another 6 years of being able to charge the TV Tax and then also expand it to cover not just what it does now but basically any media regardless of source and regardless of whether it's live or not.

Re: Internet Tax To Fund The BBC!

Yes they get away with it now but it is an archaic out of date system they keep renewing because they have not come up with a better idea. Taxing people for what has become a necessity instead of a luxury I just do not see it happening

The trying to control information part will not win any party votes as well as the electorate and I have never seen a politician that is not thinking about the next election

It was resurrected because the "The Social Market Foundation" has done an article about it on their website.

https://www.smf.co.uk/publications/v...c-licence-fee/

Dated 23/09/2026

The problem is, the nutjobs at that place have the ear of the Government because it was founded by the nutjobs in the "Social Democratic Party" so it claims to be "Independent" but then it's founding members are/were members of a political party aimed at destroying the country!

The thing is though, there is going to be even more talk about this sort of thing next year whilst the BBC try to get as much money as possible from people.

Personally I would rather see the BBC ask people to choose if they want to pay for the BBC's services or not via a subscription like Netflix etc but we all know they won't because their funding would drop by more than 50% overnight.

They are already doing it, the plans are in place and they are pushing it through.

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/p...edia-in-the-uk

It's not just in the UK either, Australia currently ran by the Labour Party have just done the same thing or pushing it through and using the "Childrens Safety" thing to do it.

The Government will control what is reported, how it's reported and when it's reported, what you can see and what you can't by making companies only show what they approve.

So the TV Tax will also be used to fund Government Propaganda broadcasts (already is according to many) and to stop the opposition from being heard or seen.

Re: Internet Tax To Fund The BBC!

They should just run a business model the same as everyone else who is not sub based and have their funding come from adverts . They would reach more people than any other ad funded service because they have hordes of local national and international stations. It really is not rocket science

Re: Internet Tax To Fund The BBC!

The Internet, something that has evolved and been pushed so far into our lives that many now can't 'manage' without it.
Is it any wonder that someone, somewhere, was going to see it as a massive source of income (tax haha) and try a cash grab?

Re: Internet Tax To Fund The BBC!

Belgian TV in the Flemish areas was switched to direct taxation for income, whilst the Walloons stuck to an annual licence fee.

The whole country has been pushing the EU towards an internet tax based on usage, but the Eurocrats have been stalling on that for many years.

Angry Re: Internet Tax To Fund The BBC!

I can't manage without the Internet - I use it for my jobsearching - but I'll be damned if I'll pay any more than I am doing now!

Funding the BBC? The obsolete licence already does that. I won't pay to fund a service I never use. I think that figure of 2% for people without TVs has increased - and will increase further if this madness goes ahead. They'll be shooting themselves in the foot.

Can you get Internet access via another country? If you can, said country is going to have a lot more business.

I dare say there are a few that would welcome you with open arms . . of course whether you accept the invitation or not depends on your personal definitions of trust and security

Actually it's a lot more complicated than that given there is s finite amount of advertising money available, it'd put a lot of tv and radio stations out of business and those local radio stations are shadows of their former selves with listener ship in the tens of people
