Slavery Repatriations
Jamaica to bring slavery reparations petition to King Charles

Grange said it could pave the way for a "long outstanding settlement for the hundreds of years of the most horrific abuse that our African ancestors endured".

The petition is not a demand for payment.
Grange said: "Once we get the answers, or once we get a response to those questions, then the next steps will be determined."

I wish her well, I really do, especially when she has to deal with the (probably) millions of slave descendants that, in a magnanimous gesture of fair play and good will, we will return (for free) to their ancestral homeland and the lifestyle we stole from them.
That should sort out the housing market, provide numerous job opportunities for those who don't have one, and free up seats on trains & busses.

Re: Slavery Repatriations . .
Although surely they should be claiming reparations from the descendants of the people who actually enslaved their African ancestors - who would be different African ancestors.
At this time Africa was a hodgepodge of warring small states, who routinely enslaved and willingly sold on defeated enemies.

The Arab slave trade was most active in West Asia, North Africa (Trans-Saharan slave trade), and Southeast Africa (Red Sea slave trade and Indian Ocean slave trade), and rough estimates place the number of Africans enslaved in the twelve centuries prior to the 20th century at between six million to ten million. The Ottoman[ie Turkey] slave trade came from raids into eastern and central Europe and the Caucasus connected to the Crimean slave trade, while slave traders from the Barbary Coast raided the Mediterranean coasts of Europe and as far afield as the British Isles and Iceland.

What about Spain and Portugal? They were operating long before the UK got involved.

Only the UK are stupid enough to enter discussions, everyone else would laugh and give a two fingered wave.
I wonder if there's been a similar petition sent to Trump?

Re: Slavery Repatriations
Yeah lets get someone who had nothing to do with it pay people who did not have it done to them . What about all the descendants of the Black Black slave trade because blacks traded in blacks before whites ever did and while we are at it lets demand reparations to Denmark for the Vikings Italy for the Romans and France for the Normans

Re: Slavery Repatriations
Performative nonsense, which of course means all the ‘progressive’ seal-clapping morons of the Left will be lining up to tell us how important it is.
Meanwhile, in the real world, the UK of the 19th century did the only thing it plausibly could do in order to end the slave trade, which was to buy the freedom of the slaves from their owners. It takes the unhinged revisionism of 21st century activism to twist that massive act of self sacrifice into an act of injustice, but here we are.

The 40% figure was of UK Government Annual Budget at the time, not GDP (which measures the entire national economy, including citizens and private businesses - for example, UK 2025 budget was £1.304 trillion, whilst UK GDP was £3.034 trillion)
It was around 5% of the GDP at the time.
