Re: UK Energy Prices
Britain's biggest energy supplier, Octopus, tells customers to avoid using electricity during the solar eclipse because of the hit on renewable generation.

Re: UK Energy Prices
On a very warm evening, good luck with that.
All the fans will still be on, as will aircon for those that have it.
I'm over in Spain to [hopefully] see it.

Paul, no, no hopefully, move heaven and earth to be in the line of totality. It really is spectacular.

It’s a publicity stunt to show off how they’re trying to actively balance power generation, use and storage. I get it in stereo from them with an EV charging tariff, they want the car plugged in at all times when it’s at home so they can dump excess power into it, and they have some gimmick involving cartoon fish in the app that’s supposed to amount to additional off-peak charging hours if I’m a good boy.

Re: UK Energy Prices
We've had quite a lot of 'cleanly produced' excess power lately, but without adequate storage a fair bit is wasted . . there again at these prices, who wants it?

Re: UK Energy Prices
Not sure how this gets triggered but it maybe useful for people on Octopus with a smart meter.

Re: UK Energy Prices
turn the lights off, lock the doors, seal the windows. I'll pass Octopus. Thanks though.
My smart meter has been flashing every Sunday saying I'm over budget. Do they do this just to piss people off? My energy usage is the same as when it wasn't flashing. It's the blooming chargeable rates that have changed! talk about shot in the foot!

Re: UK Energy Prices
A whole hour free (generally on a Sunday). Wow ...
* and thats if you manage to qualify, which seems a lot of messing about in the week.
Even if I were still on Octopus, I would not bother, its a few pence.

Re: UK Energy Prices
Everyone and their dog are now throwing 'free' stuff around, much of which is going to cost you more to get than you'll save

Yes I wouldn't bother either unless it gets triggered automatically with me working shifts.

Quote:
Energy prices for millions of households will rise to the highest level for three years, under regulator Ofgem's price cap.
Ofgem said the price cap will increase by 4% on 1 October, driven by higher wholesale gas prices due to the Iran war.
A household using a typical amount of gas and electricity will pay £60 a year more, but more than a third of households are on fixed tariffs so their prices will not change.
The government said its cut to VAT on electricity bills will save households £45 and it was doing more to address cost of living pressures, but opposition parties said Labour was not doing enough.
The new cap will hit household bills as the colder weather arrives in October

Our current tariff with Fuse runs out late September, so we transferred to a two year fixed rate with EDF last week.

Re: UK Energy Prices
Half way through my 2 year fixed with outfox, it looks better each time the cap rises. I wish it was for more than 2 years.
