As I understand it, built in apps require active system validation tied to the subscription service, which depends on the main subscription infrastructure. You are assuming, I think, that Sky will continue to offer a service to these boxes when satellite TV closes down in this country.
As you know, traditional satellite broadcasts are likely to remain active until at least 2029 under current SES satellite contracts, so existing boxes will stay working until Sky forces a complete switchover to internet delivered operating systems.
In theory, you could still access other non-Sky satellite services operating in Europe, but that assumes that Sky don't disable the boxes completely. What are the chance$?
