Secure Boot
My Acer machine is flagging a future issue with secure boot. It has limitations with hardware or firmware so updates cannot be applied.
What do I do? Is it time for a new machine?

No idea how old the Acer is, or what OS it's running
Turn secure boot off?  . . . or spend a fortune upgrading

what is the exact message? is your windows up to date?
8th Gen so it does not have full support from Intel I assume you installed win 11 using Hirens. Can you screen shot the message?

As others are likely to have the same problem, it's an idea to do a general internet search for "Acer XC-885 secure boot".

The Acer XC-885 (and similar legacy models like the Aspire TC-885) faces issues with the June 2026 expiration of original 2011 Secure Boot certificates, which may result in a "Hardware/Firmware Limitations" warning in Windows Security. This occurs because the motherboard’s BIOS partition for Secure Boot keys is too small to accommodate the new 2023/2026 Microsoft certificates without a firmware update

Actually nothing to do with windows 11 and all to do with the current bios on the motherboard not having enough space in the secure key folder for the new security keys. If there is a more current bios then it should in theory fix this if not then it is no big deal imo

Ahh another reason to move away from Microslop.
The sole reason for Secure Boot is to force hardware manufacturers to pay Microslop for keys and certificates if you want to install non-microslop operating systems or custom boot software/tools, without just disabling "Secure Boot".
Also has a nice little added bonus of people not realising they need to turn it off in order to install most Linux distros which when they try, they find they cannot run it and because "head ache" they just simply go back to Windows.
It's kind of like nGreedia and the others involved in it, with the whole "12vh2 6x6x4 nuclear power and fire station required" power connection for new GPU's, force a new connector type and then force people to spend money on new power supplies because "you need this new connector to get full use from the card".
I have a Intel based system that has not had a bios update in over 12 months, the "Secure Boot" key's are still valid, meanwhile my AMD Systems, all have had to have a new bios in order to allow Windows 11 to be installed because without it, the "Secure Boot" keys are different and won't allow it to boot once the install is complete.

We're seeing more and more issues arising in the name of "security" . . . and it's not just windows where it's happening.
I'm with damien c, everything comes down to money eventually, and you only make money by selling new stuff and/or enforcing change upon people who don't want or need it.

Last bios update was 2020/07/17

I've sent Acer a message asking whether there's going to be any bios updates. No response as of yet.
