Surely then it would be better for Reform supporters to have, well, voted Reform, keep Burnham out and ‘lame-duck’ Starmer in place.

Jem, it’s exactly what the voters were saying - they said they would vote for Burnham to get Starmer out.
It makes sense. They hate Starmer up there. He’s not exactly popular in the South, either, is he? If Reform won, it would have no bearing on whether the PM would leave.

Plenty of them said they could not vote Reform for that very reason.
You need to apply some critical thinking here and not just repeat Reform's latest excuse without at the very least, sense-checking it first.
