Re: Starmer’s chronicles
Under the circumstances, I think 'permanent' was a tad shorter than expected

Re: Starmer’s chronicles
Permanent secretary means senior civil servant in a government department, as opposed to a private secretary who is an MP working for a minister.

They make things complicated don't they, no wonder they look confused most of the time

Think back to Yes, Minister and the ways in which Sir Humphrey and other senior civil servants were able to manipulate their ministers.
Even Thatcher knew how accurate the depictions of the government were.

It seems a 5 year old can manipulate Starmer

Re: Starmer’s chronicles
There's a big disjoint in Starmer's case. He's complaining that he wasn't told that Mandelson had failed vetting. Yet, Mandelson was actually granted DV status. It was within the PUS' remit to grant clearance if the mitigations were achievable.
The disjoint arises because he pleads guilty to poor judgement in choosing Mandelson. To deflect this away, Starmer complains of something that isn't true: Namely that he wasn't told that Mandelson had failed vetting.
The UKVS vetting is just one stage in the process. The process is only complete when the procuring senior officer has rendered a decision.
So, squirm, baby, squirm. More fun to come, plus May 7th.

Re: Starmer’s chronicles
Starmer will survive thiis. What happens after the May elections is another matter but his chances of survival would probably be zero if Andy Burnham was now an MP.

Re: Starmer’s chronicles
I think they should tell him to bugger off and take his baggage with him . . then they can get that nice Dianne Abbott back and have her as PM . . she was funny as, and we need a good laugh
