Advice for a new TV?

Hi all,

Currently running a Hisense H49N5500UK (49” from around 2020) in the living room. It’s been solid and still works fine, but I know it’s pretty basic by today’s standards (edge-lit LED, 60Hz, no real HDR etc).

My setup:

PS5

Sky Q 2TB (UHD)

BT TV box

Firestick 4K

Usage is mainly:

Football / sports

Streaming (Netflix, Prime etc.)

Casual PS5 gaming

I’m not a hardcore gamer, but I do want things to look smooth and decent.

Budget is roughly £400 to £600 (maybe a little more if it’s really worth it). I don’t want to spend big money unless the upgrade is actually noticeable.

I’m also looking to stay around 49” to 55”, not planning to go much bigger than that.

Things I’ve been looking at:

Hisense E7Q Pro (55”)

Hisense U7 / U7 Pro (Mini-LED)

Samsung QLED / Neo QLED options

A few LG NanoCell / standard LED models

From what I can tell:

Cheap TVs (£200–£300) don’t seem worth it

Mid-range looks a bit “meh” upgrade-wise

Mini-LED seems like the proper jump

Questions:

Would something like the Hisense E7 Pro actually feel like a big upgrade from what I’ve got?

Is it worth stretching to Mini-LED (like U7 Pro), or is that overkill for my usage?

Would you upgrade in my position or just keep the current TV for now?

Get a mini led if you can't afford an oled. Also factor in freely. The difference is night and day.

To replace an old Hisense H55B7100UK

I knew the new tele could outperform the old set but the proof was evident when I put zero dark thirty on, the blacks were amazing compared to grey blocks, awful.

I haven't touched a Samsung since plasma days. LG software is slow. Panasonic were the brand to get during plasma days, I'm not sure now. I was surprised to read TCL run android but the brand doesn't fill me with confidence. Bush, Toshiba, na.

Hisense with your budget. Sony if you can blow the budget.

Well you can get a 48 inch LG OLED for £749 or a Panasonic 55 inch for £799 from RS possibly cheaper if you can find them cheaper elsewhere as I think they still do a price promise and free 6 year guarantees. (in the case of the Panny I'd check it isn't a Vestel version from Turkey, Panasonic made their budget and some mid range tv's there, not sure if they still do).
I think OLED is worth the price increase if you can push the boat out a bit.

LG Nano are the way to go . I am looking longingly at a 65inch model trying to work out how to lower my tv stand to accommodate haha

Same here. I’d admit LG software can be a bit slow. But I’ve never yet once used any of the “smart” features or apps from the TV itself. If I need to then I’d use the firestick. Other than that the TV is connected to my pc for everything else.

Any android app I want to use I tend to run in emulation now anyway. Firestick only gets used so my granddaughter can watch cartoons on youtube
