End Of Contract

Hi Peeps, Hope I have posted this in the right place.

In April my contract ends, I have TV, BB & home phone.

Now when I phone up to see if I can get a "Deal"

I still want TV & BB BUT I don't need the land line, will VM force me to get the newest tivo box ? at the mo I have the Tivo 6 & I dont want to alter that because if I am right the new box does NOT Record programs, I Do Need one to record stuff to watch later.
I am also over 70 years old can I get a lower price as a OAP ?

Thank You For you Help.

Mike.

Re: End Of Contract !

You may find it cheaper just to renew your existing contract and keep the phone, even if you never use it. VM are a "bundle" supplier and the more you have the cheaper the cost.
If you drop the phone, that's a new contract, so you may be forced to get the stream box? I also suspect if you do get a new contract and they allow you to keep your V6, it will be migrated to the 360 platform, thus saving VM a Tivo licence.
Just think about what TV you actually watch, can you get it via Freeview? If so there are several Freeview recording boxes available "rent free" so to speak.
As for OAP, there are no discounts other than the Social Tariff if you are on benifits, but I don't think this includes any TV packages, just broadband?

Re: End Of Contract !

Dont do anything you're within the last 30 days of your contract end. Thats when they panic and offer the best deals. They offer renewal deals on your online account, but you'll get a better one by ringing and saying you're leaving.

Offer £3 off if I dropped landline. That was on Monday.

I'm sure they'll offer you a deal, just depends how quickly you blink. It will probably be cheaper to keep the landline whatever, that's just how they work.
I rang 35 days before my contract end (been on cable since the mid 90's) and said I wanted to leave. The difference was this time I meant it but I was offered all kinds of improving incentives verbally by retentions, by text and email as the date got nearer. You'll almost certainly get a single call back from retentions if you reject the offer when you initially ring, but if you miss the callback that's probably the end of the poker game.

But hypothetically, they offer you nothing (and take it from me, they won’t), what do you then do? Are you prepared to leave? You will lose your @ntlworld.com address but is that enough leverage to compel you to pay whatever they demand?

And yes, you are right, ‘loyalty’ means absolutely nothing.

So here’s what you do, investigate alternative suppliers, what can they offer, how much? Spin up a new non-VM branded email address and start the process of informing all of your contacts of your new address - do it now, set the ball rolling.

Now having done all of that, you will be in a much better position to negotiate a renewal. And it is literally that; a negotiation. Think of it like this; VM want you to pay them the maximum amount of money for the minimum of service, and you want the complete opposite! So it comes down to a poker match, who blinks first?

Going down this route is the only possibility of you getting any sort of ‘better’ deal, but you absolutely have to be prepared to go through with your threat to leave and sign up with another provider.

Excellent post all round. To get the best deal involves putting in a notice to cancel then (make sure you have your permissions to contact with offers set to 'yes').they call you with a much better offer & you can even negotiate this down, so don't accept their first offer 😉
