Sparrows may be making a comeback...
I saw one today, for the first time in ages. Even pigeons aren't as common as they were in Bolton town centre; I saw several one day on the roofs. I've seen the odd magpie (and every time I do, I recall the Magpie theme song!).
But to see even one sparrow is good news - because if there's one, there are more!

8 sparrows, 2 male robins, 4 magpies, 2 grey wagtails, a wren and a goldcrest all within half an hour.
And the usual male Blackbird came to snaffle more of my Aronia berries.
