Re: Virgin TV (2025)
Sometimes at least new apps don’t appear on old boxes simply because the technology can’t support the tech used in that app. However, it is also fair to say that it can be a deliberate encouragement for viewers to update their boxes.

Don't need the apps that I'm issuing on my TiVo as they're all available on the TV anyway.
Had the 360 and quickly got changed back to the TiVo as it was so bad

"but sir they have everything on demand now surely we should just give them the channel"
"......no....noooo....NEVER! this is the channel which will make people quit virgin media and join sky! it'll work!"
"but sir its been over a decade and it hasnt worked"
"IT WILL!" *Rocks back and forth*

Re: Virgin TV (2025)
Or they are planning to shut down Sky Atlantic with Sky Showcase absorbing it, ahead of HBO Max launch around 1st April, maybe they could rebrand Sky Showcase as Sky One ?
Sky put Sky Atlantic in Sky Essential TV in Sky Stream in December, all their other Pay Entertainment channels are only in Sky Ultimate TV

Exactly. I'd rather people kept quiet about something than giving half a (alleged) tale.

There have been some excellent programmes on Sky Atlantic in the past, but it has become just an average Sky channel more recently - so much so, that I have cancelled my Now subscription.
I think Sky's strategy is to replace the HBO dramas with home produced programmes via their enlarged Sky Studios as all that will be on HBO Max from next year (although Sky will be permitted to continue to show some HBO programming for the time being).
So the 'big change' I am expecting is for Sky Atlantic to undergo a name change and for Sky's new home grown programming and other drama and comedy commissions to be broadcast on that channel. Sky Showcase draws mainly on the shows on other Sky channels, so they may well leave that as it is.
It's also possible that Sky may decide to abolish Sky Atlantic and have all their Sky Studios material put on Sky Max. That would make sense if Sky wanted to keep as many viewers engaged as possible pending the anticipated satellite switch-off in a few years' time. This would give Sky Max a decent range of new shows, which coupled with their existing material, the terrestrials might find hard to compete with.
This will possibly turn out to be the best TV channel news we've had for ages, but sadly possibly the last.

Yes, ‘The Guilded Age’ was one of them. Quite a decent series (but just a little bit woke at times).

i hate the expression of "woke" just say you dont like the tv show oldboy its quite fine to say it and just say you thought it was unrealistic for the time period or something?
dont just say "woke" as some form of criticism for a tv show. 15 years ago no one on here would know what that meant. you were on here back then too. you joined in 2008. never used words like "woke" back then.
i'm just fed up of hearing people regurgitate words from either the left wing or (yeah its mainly this next lot) the right wing press. i immediately know then the word "woke" got used because there is several articles about how they wanted a buzz word to use to take a catchphrase and turn it right wing "crusade" against things they didn't like. so everything they didn't like became "woke".
i'm bored of politics and i dont want to see it on here tbh so just say something else rather than be a cliche old boy and when you use words like "woke" thats just being a cliche and you're better than that

Re: Virgin TV (2025)
Godwin’s Second Law springs to mind…
But, in the interest of balance, perhaps Old Boy could provide examples of "wokeness" from "The Gilded Age" programme - we may agree with him?
I have to say, I never thought of Julian Fellowes as being "woke"…
