Should Halal meat be banned in the UK?

As the header says, Should Halal meat be banned in the UK?

I feel it should it is cruel and causes the animal unnecessary suffering.

Plus the government looked a ban, but backed down.

Other countries have banned it.

I've made the poll private.

Well the animal is stung up by its ankles and its throat slit and bleeds to death.

Stunning doesn't work 100%, but it comes close, and a better option.

Ironical the only meat I eat cannot be Halal.

I don't agree with religious exemptions on laws of any kind. If there's a reason for the law, then how can exemptions be allowed?
The animal slaughter exemptions also apply to Kosher slaughter.

In the abattoir I visited pigs were hung 3 to a hook gassed then their throats slit. All the way through they were kicking and screaming. The lairage was close enough un stunned animals heard the screams and were terrified. How humane is that hey ?

Re: Should Halal meat be banned in the UK?

Halal and Kosher meats are technically already illegal as the animals are not stunned before slaughter, but they get to play the religion card.

And even if they were made illegal, there would just be even more backstreet slaughterhouses opening-up.

They have exemptions to the law.
The Welfare of Animals (Slaughter or Killing) Regulations 1995
Quote:
Method of slaughter
6. Any person who slaughters by a religious method any animal which has not been stunned before bleeding shall—
(a)before each animal is slaughtered, inspect the knife to be used and ensure that it is not used unless it is undamaged and of sufficient size and sharpness to be capable of being used to slaughter the animal in the manner described in sub-paragraph (b) below; and
(b)ensure that each animal is slaughtered by the severance, by rapid, uninterrupted movements of a knife, of both its carotid arteries and both its jugular veins.

About time this rule was enforced.

Halal slaughtered meat is not allowed to be used for the general population. IE You can't have Halal takeaways.

If you're happy with eating meat, don't see what the problem is with halal, horse or dog.
All meat is murder.

I'll stick to stuff I've grown.
