Shame, the last person he saw was JD Vance, he didn’t deserve that as one of his last memories

Re: Pope Francis has died
As a leader in the Protestant church in Scotland, traditionally I’m meant to dislike the pope intensely … but all I can see is a man who tried to live as simply and humbly as he could, given the constraints of an office that was vastly larger and older than him.
May he rest in peace and rise in glory.

Re: Pope Francis has died
RIP Pope Francis.
A man that certainly tried to modernise the Catholic church, might only have been small things but he shall never be forgotten for it.
He was also the first non European Pope of the modern era.
Eternal rest grant unto Francis, O Lord

Did he? He talked a good fight re modernisation but what actually changed? That notwithstanding he was a force for good in challenging times and seemed a thoroughly decent human being, just what you'd want from a pontif actually, I hope he's at peace.
It's starting to become a trend btw, iconic decent leaders having their last visitors being a complete pos, her maj and the lettuce and now the Pope and shady, they both deserved better.

Change within the Catholic church is never going to be something that will happen on a grand scale overnight. You have over a millennium of well-trodden traditions and rituals. None of this is meant as a knock on Catholicism, as this is neither the time nor the thread for it, but he certainly gave off more liberal vibes whilst respecting said traditions.
I do think over the coming decades Catholicism will lean somewhat more towards modernisation in several ways, but this will only start with careful baby steps.
Given the responsibilities placed upon his shoulders and how he dealt with them, I believe he will go down in history as one of the pioneers of such changes.
RIP indeed, and I wish the very best to his successor.

Re: Pope Francis has died
I can only respect a man who stuck with his beliefs and attempted to leave the Catholic Church in a better shape than it had been for a very long time.

The first American to become pope, Cardinal Robert Prevost, has announced he will be known as Pope Leo XIV.
