My TV switches itself on several times a day and night when no one is even in the room with the TV. E.g. at 11.47pm last might I was in bed and heard the TV come on downstairs. I have to pull the power to the TV to stop it doing this

I had a similar problem a couple or so years ago. It turned out to be batteries in the remote control that needed replacing. If I remember correctly, it was the TV remote control batteries.

I have set a few things to record as 'new only' and it is recording old episodes in the early hours

I’m not sure what he’s talking about here. If you want to set a recording, you are given the option of recording new shows only. It works for me - never had a problem with it.

I have looked and looked and I still can't find where to manage my series links - it is well hidden!

You can’t, but so what? If you finish a series and don’t want to watch any more you can just delete the series link. So in the ‘View all’ section of recordings, press the bin icon and up come your options, one of which is ‘delete all & cancel future recordings’.

We need subtitles in our house all the time. Is it me or are they bigger??? We like the simple subtitle button old old remote.

The subtitles are the same as for the V6. You just have to press the ‘…’ button for the subtitles option.

New remote hard to use without looking at it. Old one had spaces between groups of buttons so you just knew what to press without looking. This one is a block of aquare buttons. Need my glasses to work it.

The remote control is the same as many I’ve seen and it is big enough. It also lights up in the dark so you can see the keys.

I couldn't find box sets until I read that to make them easier to find they are in Movies - really????

Well, I don’t recognise that at all. The box sets are under ‘TV Shows’, not ‘Movies’. If you go to ‘Movies’, you get, well, movies…

When I look at movies etc to whatch in my package (previously 'on demand moves or boxsets' and so easy to find) they are now all mixed together with ones that need paying for.

The movies you have to pay for are clearly marked, and if you want to see only the films in your subscription package you can select which package (ie Sky Cinema, Sky Cinema UHD, Prime Video, Disney+, Paremount+, Apple+, MUBI and Adult).

Clearly, it is your right to retain your TiVo software until Virgin withdraw it, but a lot of what I have heard said about it by serial complainers is either untrue, exaggerated or of no real consequence. The special features are different on each, that is all. You pays your money and you takes your choice, as they say.

I would say that was either operator error, someone else in your house changing the settings, or a faulty box.
 | What's 'of any consequence' varies between different people and their differing circumstances. You are again assuming that what's right for you is right for everybody & that your view is the only correct conclusion to come to when making a decision.

When the V6 is eventually retired I shall probably move over to Sky Q as they recently made a statement that it will remain available for the foreseeable future.

Yet Sky Q is very similar to 360, the undelete function and recording radio channels is basically the only real difference between the 2 in terms of functionality.

I suspect that Virgin are now starting to dispense with the carrot and moving towards the stick as the latest tactic is to send out emails saying 'You need to upgrade now', which obviously implies that you don't have any choice.

If the past is anything to go by they will begin to remove channels at some point, starting with the less popular standalone premium channels, then Sky Cinema, then Sky Sports before gradually reducing channels in the basic packs.

Why would they withdraw carrying Sky sports?

Only a 7 day EPG too - no 7 back and 14 forward.
A couple of the SD channels are actually higher quality video on VM - especially Talking Pictures.

 | Past decommissioning of past STB's. A phased approach levels out calls to CS & the withdrawal of Sky Sports etc acts as a stick to get people to upgrade, without leaving them with nothing at all to watch.

 | Radio recording is a huge deal breaker for me. I realise I will lose QuickView, but at least i'd be able to keep this.

You can record radio on SkyQ but have to set each programme as a one-off record - no series linking on radio.
So if you wanted 'World at One' on Radio Four you have to set a recording for each day it is on - and then redo it for the following week. So five requests every week.

I've also found that radio recording requests often seem just to drop off the recordings list.

Do you have a link?

 | I think you are a bit starry-eyed about Sky. I hope you look into what it offers very carefully before you jump ship.

Sky Q is guaranteed to be functioning until 2029-30, when the transponder contracts run out, and Virgin isn't doing anything to compel its customers to change to the 360 at this stage. So Virgin and Sky are in roughly the same position.

I'd sit tight if I were you, but of course, it's your decision. Be careful what you wish for and prepare for a streaming only future.
