GOLD wasn't classed as a new channel when the UKTV channels were pulled and returned in HD.
When the UKTV channels were restored, Virgin simply reactivated the old services. CNN has been away for so long that they gave it a new ID number, so in that respect it is a new service. Nobody in the real world actually cares about that sort of technical explanation and most will consider it to be a returning service rather than a new one. As far as marketing goes, it is something new, something to promote and that's what we are seeing with the new channel claims.

The Express announces the arrival of the MUBI app on TV 360 and Stream devices in a less than complimentary manner.

Re: Virgin TV (2024)

Article says "To make things even better, the usual £11.99 MUBI price has been dropped by 70 percent when signing up via Virgin (or through Priority from O2) with that lower cost lasting for the first three months."

O2 offer is 70% off for six months.

This says six months for both - but can't find a real VM screen to confirm - https://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.ph...m-service.html

They have their own offers anyway which are considerably less than the standard price. The standard price is £11.99/mth or £18.99/mth for MUBI GO, with a 33% discount if paid annually. My original offer was £1 for 3 months.

Re: Virgin TV (2024)

no idea what MUBI is and the movies it quoted in the article i have no idea what they are. I assume its not for the likes of me.

here's one thing annoying me at the moment. soap operas aren't my thing but i do love classic soap operas. they're hilarious. i'm in my 30s (late 30s) and i thoroughly enjoyed watching classic coronation street and eastenders on itv 3 and UK Drama. That was a few years ago now.

Whats happened since? classic corrie and classic eastenders is now in the era of "lets make everyone cheat on each other, lets have mass murders and natural disasters" i.e. theyre now all post 2005.

Yet the audience is still there as the show is still slightly less sh*t than 2024 so they're quite passionate about it continuing as it is.

Surely a "classic" tv show should cover at least the first 30% of the shows existence rather than what we get now.

I miss the days of being able to watch classic brookside and classic neighbours too. I see amazon only uploaded the more modern episodes yet again they realise if they uploaded the genuine 80s episodes people would go "ooh thats better than the current product!"

Can we expect for actual classic corrie, classic eastenders, classic neighbours etc to be coming soon or are we stuck with 2000s episodes because people like them more than 2024 stuff even though its not "classic"

Re: Virgin TV (2024)

I watch a lot of films but nothing on MUBI is even tempting me with the 70% offer - even for one month try-out.

I signed up to the app in 2022 without actually subscribing. I browsed through the content for a while and nothing really appealed to me. It wasn't until they did the £1 for 3 months offer that I decided to give it a try. I watched a few films, they were all decent, probably to be expected as they were all award winning. When the flash sale came along for a heavily discounted annual subscription, I renewed for a further year. I was quite surprised that some of the films were actually quite enjoyable. You don't know unless you try it. I wouldn't pay £11.99/month though, I think that is overpriced. The £18.99/month version includes a weekly cinema ticket for their film choice of the week. Many would probably find having the film selected for you too restrictive, then there is the issue of it may not be showing in your local area.

On the whole though, I'm quite impressed but I probably wouldn't have taken the bait had it not been for the £1 promotion.

Probably more for film enthusiasts really but with a wide variety of award winning films you'll probably find stuff that would interest you. Wait for a mega-discounted promotion though if you are going to try it out.

Re: Virgin TV (2024)

Never heard of them either, so I looked them up.

They appeared to have a lot of decent films (I just looked at Sci-Fi) but they seem mostly older films, a few years at least.

This would have tempted me for £1
https://mubi.com/en/gb/films/duck-do...the-24-century

But then I noticed this ;

This film is not currently playing on MUBI, but many other great films are
Checking all the others that would have interested me, they all said the same. So Nope.
