It does seem rather odd for him to subscribe to Virgin for services he doesn't want, then to pay again for those unwanted services with a NOW subscription.

Let's go through this again. What I find is that everything my wife and I watch these days is also available on the streamers. Trouble is, remembering which streamer is showing which programme, and remembering what you have only partly watched, or where you are in a series can be a pain. Also, my wife finds it confusing getting ibnto the streamers without having a watchlist that can take her into it with just one click.

The only way I can ditch the channels and keep my wife engaged with this is to ensure that she can retain her watchlists.

The only barrier for me in switching off the pay channels is the absence of Discovery+.

As for NOW, I know that's not covered by Virgin, but there is so little of any interest on Sky these days that we can just dip in and out of that as required. Netflix is the main problem because as you say, we have no alternative but to use their watchlist.

But what I am planning, once Discovery+ arrives (or alternatively, Max), is to switch to Virgin Stream, which will enable us to watch the programmes we want using only two watchlists, which is the best that can be achieved on any system at present. And I will no longer pay for any channels by subscription.

Something better may come along in time, but for me this works pretty well.

Yes, millions will, and the rest won’t have a choice, because their precious scheduled TV will no longer be available. However, they will have the FAST channels to fall back on if that is their preference.

But remember, that’s just what I think. Only time will prove me right or wrong, and as you have nothing to back up your view of the future, why are you still arguing the toss? Nobody can be 100% sure of what the future will bring. Even H G Wells must have had his doubts.

If Virgin can count on you, the most vociferous proponent of your own vision, to continue paying them month after month due to the inadequacies of the streamers I doubt anyone has too much to worry about.

You say Jesus!!! then, basically, agree with what I was saying but blame everything on your wife. I would suggest that waiting for Virgin to add Discovery+ is surrendering your entertainment choices to Virgin. There are alternatives to Virgin's watchlist. Add whatever you are watching to Roku's Save List for example. When you click on the show, then the streamer (including Netflix), the streaming service will invariably remind you of where you left off last time.

Or maybe you just need to scribble some notes in a notepad...

Yes, the FAST channels will almost certainly carry on beyond 2035, but they are a poor reflection of the conventional channels, aren’t they?

I was responding to your remark about subscribing to channels I don’t want, but I have to if my wife has the same choice at her fingertips - and that she can understand - as she does now. Once Discovery+ (or whatever its successor is called) arrives, then what I need is complete. I am currently on a deal that I cannot get out of without penalty unti the New Year, so I am hoping that the streamer will arrive this year, as was highlighted would happen some months back. I don’t see any reason for a delay until Max arrives - I hope not.

Thank you for the information on the Roku Save list. I was unaware of that, and I didn’t notice it when I last used it (which must be a couple of years ago now). I will check that out to see whether that would work, but I don’t expect it will have profiles, which is what I use on the 360 to keep my list separate from that of the missus.

Phew! where to start? Some of them are conventional channels. Genre based FAST channels.. music, news etc are of equal value to conventional channels. I guess you mean the binge channels but how are they different to bingeing on conventional channels? E.g. Columbo or NCIS strands on 5USA? It's just more of the same. Literally.

Not sure if its been mentioned but on tv360 home page there is an offer for 3 months free apple tv you can then get it by going to o2 priority which virgin media only users can now use i believe?

I had just activated my ps5 offer of apple tv and it wont let me add two offers one after each other....bad timing haha.

Apple TV have these 'free three month' offers everywhere. Sky customers have now got them for a second time and those who did it the first time can get it again.

O2 customers have had them and now VM customers.

Currys email subscribers keep getting them.

I've had AppleTV for yesrs and have never paid.

I think some Barclays Bank customers now have the offer too.

Wouldn't think it's a nature channel anymore, it's mostly Yesterday and occasionally W.

I can see Alibi and Gold going FTA when they get the 'U&' added, their shows have links on u.co.uk just saying not currently available On Demand

Alibi upcoming original programming in 2025 is branded as 'U& Original Series'

Maybe if the premium content was still there. It has been devalued over the years by not investing in new content and dropping much of the original content. These days it does look more like a FTA channel.
