Family almost wiped out in crash

Mum, dad and two daughters aged 4 and 9 were among those killed in a horrific crash on Sunday afternoon.

Two (as yet unnamed) riders on a motorbike also died.

Another daughter, aged 11, is all that remains of the family.
(unclear, but I presume she wasnt in the car at the time of the accident).

Re: Family almost wiped out in crash

Time will tell, but for 4 passengers in a car to be killed on a rural A road means some pretty extreme speeds were probably involved. What an awful business.

As far as I can tell it was a head on collision with a motorcycle and pillion, the combined impact speed would most likely have been substantial.

Grim news.

The motorcycle appears to have been on the “wrong” side of the road. The Mail are reporting a fireball and the burnt out car would suggest so.

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c29d2lenkp1o. Looks like another vehicle involved as an arrest has been. Awful incident.

Re: Family almost wiped out in crash

Yes, curious developments to this.

Quote:
A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after six people, including four members of the same family, were killed in a crash.
Quote:
Police have appealed for anyone who saw a grey Porsche 911 being driven in the area around the time of the collision to come forward.
Its beginning to sound a bit like this man was driving the Porsche in a manner that forced the bike & car into the path of each other.

Or maybe the Porsche and biker were racing and the bike tried to pass.

They aren't asking for witnesses who have previously seen, or dashcam/CCTV footage of the bike. There's only one inference to be made.

The BBC article currently carries this:

Quote:
Mr Barton, 56, and Mrs Barton, 48, had recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary.

In a tribute issued by police, their son described the couple, who lived in Barnsley, as “a loving, caring mum and dad who always put me before everything else”.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c29d2lenkp1o

If the police had an indication of fault at this stage I'm uncertain they'd be issuing this on behalf of their son.

Re: Family almost wiped out in crash

Who knows, it could be that the bike was trying to overtake the Porsche, legitimately and safely, and the Porsche took offence to that and the driver deliberately forced the bike into the other lane into on oncoming traffic.

Now…there’s a truck load of speculation in that. But as an ex-biker I have experienced that, so wouldn’t be surprised.

Re: Family almost wiped out in crash

The wording of the request definitely suggests they think the Porsche was a cause, and you can bet the man arrested was driving it.

Quote:
They also urged anyone who may have dashcam, CCTV or doorbell footage of the Porsche and the manner it was being driven to contact them.

Re: Family almost wiped out in crash

I think I read that the 11 year old is staying with an aunt.
