£100K not a good salary for Surrey
Jeremy Hunt said £100,000 is not a huge salary for Surrey-ians.
What do you think of us, poor people of Surrey? Don't we deserve levelling up?

Probably isn't for a lot of them to be fair, context is everything as much as I'd like to haul him over coals

Re: £100K not a good salary for Surrey
He said it's not a huge salary, it's different from being a good salary.
He is mostly right that when you take in housing and child care costs then £100k isn't going to go far.
The question that should be put to him is not to contest that observation but to ask him why after 14 years of a Tory Government a salary that would put you in the top percentiles of income in the country isn't enough.

All I know is, whenever Kirstie & Phil have to do a house search in Slurrey, Phil always moans that it’s the most expensive county in the country to buy a house in, thereby making his job harder.

I think the ruling party might a be a tiny bit out of touch. Just confirmation of the increasing rich/poor divide.

Re: £100K not a good salary for Surrey
Childcare is one of the many, many problems triggered by an £100,000 salary. Taxation goes bizerk at £100,001
Read this from the Telegraph
Hunt knows, Reeves knows.
Quote:
At £100,000, families do not only lose their entitlement to free childcare worth up to £14,500 a year for someone with two children outside of London, and £20,000 in the capital.
They are also hit with a marginal rate of 60pc tax, because after reaching six figures staff start to lose the personal allowance, the sum you can earn each year without paying any income tax, at a rate of £1 for every £2 of pay until it disappears at £125,140.
In an attempt to beat the system some staff are shortening their working weeks, realising they would keep more of their pay by earning £92,000 as opposed to £115,000. Others are shunning promotions or turning down work.
Given that the median salary for full-time employees in the UK was £34,963 last year, few will have much sympathy. There’s an argument that well-paid employees shouldn’t be able to game the system in order to still access taxpayer-funded childcare perks.

You would not get much for £40,000 around here, so what would you get in Surrey ? A cupboard ?

Its clear you are butter off just under £100,000 if you are a couple with kids, as it says ;
