Which would be less costly , hot tap or.....
Having a new kitchen put in , including a new hot tap, nothing wrong with one coming out. The fitters have kindly offered to put in a neighbours kitchen, so will cost her nothing. The question is would it save her money. Clearly would use instead of a kettle and to get hot water for dishes etc. So use less gas ( hot water) not sure what it is like v kettle.( for electric) I find it so much more convenient, but it costs me nothing to run

It's not simple:
Gas is several (3?) times cheaper than electricity for the same amount of energy.
A kettle is just about 100% efficient; a gas boiler 60-90%
Is the boiler just heating water on demand? Or is it keeping a tank hot that is slowly losing heat? Except that is heating your house so it isn't really wasting energy.
If you have to run the tap to get it hot, you are wasting energy. Except that is heating your house so it isn't really wasting energy.
If you boil more water than you need, you are wasting energy. Except that is heating your house so it isn't really wasting energy. Or you can make a cup of tea.
All in all, I suspect the tap is cheaper, but it's not clear cut.

Gas kwh is almost FOUR times cheaper than electricity for me.
What do you mean by a "hot tap"? A mini immersion heater? I ask because some of the properties in your village might have some very ancient forms of heating.

I wonder if Ishim is referring to the tap that is advertised on TV that offers instant boiling water? Therefore a "hot tap"

I get the impression he’s talking about a Qooker tap or similar.
I have looked in to these. They’re ludicrously expensive to buy (though in this case the neighbour is being offered one for free) and they are not maintenance free. As far as I understand it they need serviced with occasional replacement seals.
We decided to stick with what we’ve used for the last few years, which is a counter-top electric thermopot. We have had 5 litre ones in the past but now we’re not running a B&B we have a 3 litre one. We have a gas combi boiler so we fill it from our regular hot tap (water around 55c) and the thermopot brings it to about 98c and holds it there. It is insulated so quite efficient to run. And filling it hot means it boils in about 10 minutes as opposed to 20 or 25. It matches our boiling water requirement quite well and generally we re-fill it every evening.

They don’t, they’re electric. AFAIK you can only feed them from cold, so there’s no way to take advantage of pre-heated hot water from a combi boiler or cylinder.

We looked into one of these hot water taps before and concluded that they are a bit of a fashion accesory.
They run constantly in the background so there will be times when you are keeping hot water boiling when you don't need it.

I think of the potential danger or running the very hot by mistake and putting hand under it. Our hot water is at 53C so below scalding point on the combi boiler. And then there is my teas most of which want 75-85C so certainly don't want to just drop boiling hot on it.

Our friends have one, and it has a safety button, which you must hold down in order to use the tap. As soon as you release it, the water shuts off, so you can’t leave the water running. It’s also insulated, so not hot to the touch.

Yes a quooker type tap ( it's not but still..) simply was wondering if passing on would it be more expensive for her. Cost of service is not a problem, the lady has been a family friend for as long as I can recall, she used to baby sit me ! Along with her late twin brother. She still house sits for me when away , dogs like there own home . She loves mine, finding it a lot easier to use. However I really do not want increase her bills.
