Apps take a while to start up (some are worse than others) and occasionally Prime and Paramount will refuse to play a show. You have to reboot the TV to make them work. I suspect this is because they have given Netflix preferential treatment and it never seems to quite quit running in the background even when you ask it to.

I suspect we will end up replacing it by this time next year but it is likely to be apps grinding to a halt or refusing to update rather than panel quality that will be the reason.
You can fix your streaming app issue with a 4K Firestick rather than replacing the TV.

But if you want a new and better TVas a quality of life thing spread over several years of usage to spread the cost I highly recommend a top end Mini LED QLED TV if you are like me and decided to avoid the negatives of an OLED.

Re: What is your TV size and screen type?

Even though I have a 'smart' TV I find it too clunky to use the TV's own apps so never bother with them. I tend to just stick with the firestick, the V6's apps/channels, Chromecast or use the PC wired into the the AV / TV.

My TV is a 48inch LED, as it's on a corner unit anything bigger would mean it would have to be brought too forward to fit the corner and just wouldn't work for us.

Re: What is your TV size and screen type?

Since getting my 55in Samsung QN95C Mini LED TV, I've found I use the built in apps for Apple TV, Disney and Amazon Prime and they currently work great, I still have to use my Firestick Max for BeeTV though.

Re: What is your TV size and screen type?

My main TV is a Samsung 40", I connect my Sony VAIO to a Samsung 32" 3DTV, My dad has a LG 28" and I have a LG 22" in my room.

I have a Samsung 19" which I use when I connect my Samsung Netbook to a TV.

Yup, we had a firestick on our previous non-smart TV and it was OK but I never liked the way Amazon designed the interface to prefer its own content. I also never liked Amazon’s approach to software updates which rendered the thing obsolete far too quickly for my liking. It began running like an old dog and when I came to smarten up the kids’ bedroom TVs I chose Roku rather than Amazon for that reason. I very much dislike forced obsolescence as a sales strategy.

I have to say that I really, really like the app ecosystem Samsung operates. The main streaming players have all been available from day one as they have launched over the past 5 years; often they have auto-downloaded. Samsung hamstrung themselves with their inadequate onboard memory and for a while the TV couldn’t even download its own software updates due to lack of memory, but they seem to have found a workaround and that hasn’t glitched for a year or more now.

And for me the biggest attraction is not having multiple remote controls all over the place. I haven’t missed having the Freesat STB and its remote cluttering the space and I’d be reluctant to add an external streaming player that bulked my setup up again (yes I know the player is all but invisible round the back of the TV but we’re still back to having one doofah just to switch the TV on, then another one to do the smart stuff).

You don't need multiple remotes these days.

The smart remote that came with my Samsung also works the Firestick and Virginmedia box and maybe even navigate the Playstation menus out of the box.

I'm the same with my 55" Q80T. Samsung Tizen OS works great on the TV and the apps load fast and work great. I prefer the built in apps over the Sky Q box ones. They are slower chunkier and I don't get HDR of the Sky apps.

Oh to have a Samsung smart remote

Our TV shipped in 2018 with a standard remote. I expect our next one will be smart, but to get one we’d be swapping the TV, so …

I love my Samsung smart remote. Never need to use my actual Sky remote anymore just the smart one. Also got the TV set up with Alexa. So can turn the telly on and off with a simple voice command. Helpful when coming home at night. Got the living room lights attached to a routine so it all comes on when I come home.

I also got a standard remote with it, but I've not really used it, what's interesting is the Smart remote is solar powered, which is good until the internal battery can't hold a charge any longer.

I got mine the year before the solar remote started as my uncle liked my TV so much he bought one the year after and got the solar remote. Same, I never use the normal one. Smart is better too as its bluetooth.
