Router VPN ?

In a cafe I have used for years, wanted to use VPN from USA , couldn't get on . Anyway the owner told me ,, that he has now put VPN on his router so not to worry. At least I think that's what he said! So
a) did I understand him correctly and b) would it stop me using VPN on my devices . And yes it worked when I went back to house

Re: Router VPN ?

Would not have thought it would stop yours. I have used 2 VPNs before (one router one device)

Check the IP without to make sure it is behind a VPN in the cafe

Wasn't that bothered, just wondering if it would come on the site I was going to as France .not as my choice of location USA. Normally it wouldn't be a problem but the site is USA only .So if I put on my home router and it was set to say UK , would the site I went to think I am in the UK or the setting on my device? Sorry to be a pain but I am of cause paranoid

Re: Router VPN ?

if you use a software based VPN you can make it think that you are in the US... router based depends on the router if it supports VPN on it. most normal home routers don't.

Seems that Kaspersky offer to users of their VPN , software that works on router, as I understand it will use country you are in but hide IP address . This is if l understand his son correctly, mind you his English is far better than my French don't know if any other providers have this. The question then is if I put it on my router and it will say an UK address , can I still use VPN showing USA on my pc in other words what would the site think I am coming from.

which router have you got as most do not support vpn and the software vpn that the virus scanners give is just a software 1 and if it works on routers will be limited on which models it'll support

I have a TP Link with Open WRT and it is just set up in config. Main downfall for that is if you need to change the location then you need to edit the config so it is a pita
