Sky News makes a good point about why Labour might be doing it.

This tactic is taken straight from the political playbook written by the 2016 Vote Leave campaign and executed on the side of the big red Brexit bus.

Broadly speaking, this works by disseminating dubious and inflammatory content, waiting for a backlash that amplifies the message before sending out spokespeople to stand by the campaign and give it a longer media shelf life.

The result is that amid the maelstrom of outrage and the process of journalists picking apart the accuracy of the suggestions, most ordinary voters only really perceive the core message.

In 2016, that message was that the UK sends a lot of money to the EU.

In this case, it's that the Tories have gone soft on crime.

Personally, I don't like the inaccuracy of the campaign and I think it's a terrible thing to accuse Sunak of. Some have argued that as BoJo accused Starmer of deciding to not prosecute Saville this campaign is fair game. In my book, two wrongs don't make a right (or left).

The only weapon Labour really have is the state of the UK - no better, even worse, than when Labour lost the 2010 election.

The public are fickle and would punish the Tories even if Starmer could be genuinely shown to them as a hypocrite (see the child abuse row for details).

But fickle now balances sense of fair play; Sunak is not despised, imo, by the public and indeed, anything can happen between now and Autumn 2024.

Exactly. In the end it'll the economy, the NHS and crime they'll do it for them. None of which have really improved, a lot of which is now worse.

First two ads, have had Twitter context labels added on them, which shows them up for what they are, bullshit.

That link is from this time last year, and those predictions actually happened (in fact, it was worse than those predictions).

Inflation could go down to 2% Wages could up, immigration could be reduced, small boats stopped.

and it's still highly unlikely he'd win.

This government has run its course.

Labour will win, but not because they offer an exciting vision, or an idea to rally behind.

they'll win because of apathy and i doubt it will be anything like the majority they expect.

Agree 100%. Unfortunately as soon as any party is back in power it may not seem such an important issue any more and could go on the back burner.

Maybe not. Labour needs something like a 10% lead to get a majority. I think if they get under a 5% lead it's even possible for the Tories to be the latest party.

Although if Scotland opens up for them again it might be easier.
