			Birkenhead’s finest …. His voice on my radio always gave me a sense of connection to my roots.  Though his Radio 2 show ended a while ago I always assumed he’d pop up again somewhere.  Alas it’s not to be.  RIP Paul.    |

 |  Indeed he was.  I met him before he was famous and he didn't change a bit once he'd made it in mainstream society.
 
He was part of a few drag acts before deciding to try on his own.  An acquaintance suggested his mother's maiden name, Savage.  He said I like that, but it sounds too abrasive, so chose Lily to soften it and Lily Savage was born

Not seen him for donkeys years, but i"ll be saying a prayer fir him before I go to sleep.
 
I never listened to his Radio 2 show, but you might like to know thst three of Paul's Radio 2 shows have been uploaded to BBC Sounds today:
