Android auto
So have a new car and have set up Android auto , just tried to use it of the first time to get Google maps . My other car has sat nav so never used it before. Phone on Bluetooth was fine ,my question is how long before it kicks in ? yes it works but not sure if me hitting every thing got it going or am I just impatient!!!

Re: Android auto
If its setup correctly with your phone plugged into the car USB port or if wireless(is the car compatible with wireless android auto as mine isn't?) is possible it should work instantly assuming you have DATA on your mobile and followed all instructions correctly as its pretty easy.
You install the APPS you wish to USE ON your phone.
I recommend WAZE for Satnav, it's owned by Google and also free but it'll give you live traffic reports and speed cameras.

Re: Android auto
Are you asking when the Maps kick in or the Bluetooth hooking up of phonecalls? Are you expecting the Maps to automatically connect? In my experience you have to go to Apps on the car's screen as otherwise it will do whatever you left the screen on last e.g. Radio, MP3s.
There's an option in the Android Auto settings, but done on the phone itself not the car's screen, where you can automatically start a particular connection, and choose which apps you want displayed (some core Google ones cannot be removed).
You don't have to have Data on your phone, we've never used it since we're PAYG.

Re: Android auto
If he wants live traffic etc and internet radio a data connection is required but like you said some satnavs don't require data to run.

Totally. I'm just interested in the route, not traffic. Personal preference...that and the fact I'm thrifty/stingy (delete as appropriate) is a small factor admittedly.

Re: Android auto
As said Bluetooth calls up phone no problem if I wanted to use that. It's seems that it takes time to get "the phone" and it's screen up ie use Google maps . But of cause it then brings android auto and it's apps up. Really just questioning how long before the logo and therefore the app takes to load up .

It takes around 1 second in my 2018 Audi A3 after plugging my phone into the USB port, the Button 'Android Auto' then pops up for me to access everything.

Re: Android auto
It's pretty much instant in my Hyundai Ionic EV, I also agree Waze is the best option.

I've always been under the impression it depends on the person's phone. It's not exactly slow on a several years old low end smartphone, it takes as much time to switch to Apps on the car's screen then press Android Auto button as it takes for it to actually load the Map app.
With so many types of phone on the market, and the differences in how people use them i.e. how much bloat there is on them, the load times could vary massively.

Honestly not sure ,as I said banging away at buttons probably didn't help best guess a minute or so, phone is a oppo a74 . No question it ended up working , as my other car comes up with maps in blink I thought it would do the same doesn't need the phone as it's has a built-in sat nav program.

Re: Android auto
What car is it?
I have a 69 plate Kuga from new, it has sync3 with build in satnav. But when I plug my phone in, it switched to google mode and I get Google satellite maps.
I connected my Alexia Android Auto and I did some messing about (I can't recall what I did now), but when my phone is plugged in I can use and hear Android Auto to control my home automation.

I should add that I can use the controls on my steering wheel to control AA
