If he doesn't turn up, she'll get judgement in default, he'll pay up what the judge awards and he'll not have been cross-examined.
Personally I hope he tries defending the case. His come-uppance, though well under way, is not complete.

Their Mothers aren't as rich....
He/She/we will pay whatever is needed to make this go away, but it won't. Payment is as good as an admission of guilt.
Anyone genuinely innocent would also want their day in court to clear their name.

Court is a game of chance that needn’t be played. Especially civil court. Participating just increases your losses.
