Aberdeenshire: Serious injuries' as ScotRail passenger train derails in Stonehaven

The derailment of a passenger train in Aberdeenshire has seen a major incident declared following reports of serious injuries.
Emergency services are responding to the "extremely serious" incident in Stonehaven after being called to the scene around 9.40am on Wednesday.
Footage posted on social media showed smoke billowing above trees surrounding the railway line.

Very grim, have seen two awful photos already. 0638 Aberdeen to Glasgow Queen St passed Stonehaven and encountered a landslip around 0700.
Permission was given to return to Stonehaven and while running back a bridge collapsed and it fell down and embankment.

I guess the combination of it being a very early morning train and Covid 19 has resulted in such a fortunately small number of travellers. (Six staff, six passengers).

A derailment that bad would have killed a lot of people on a busy train. It’s a small mercy that will be of little comfort to those who have lost loved ones, but this could have been so much worse.
