Well the chemist explains that it is held together by fatty chemicals and can be basically thought of as a particle of grease. So it can be broken by soaps, detergents and as you say sufficiently concentrated alcohol.

Best advice is to stay in your room and never leave Cable Forum. That way you'll never catch it. Dehydration and starvation might be an issue though.

Re: Coronavirus
It's what I learned in science class. The soap breaks down the protective barriers of germs/viruses and the water finishes it off.

what do you suggest would be the "right" actions?

Taking the actions they'll have to take in a few weeks anyway. The sort of limiting public movement that has been done in Italy. It won't stop it but it will slow things down and give us more of a chance. We seem to be waiting for things to get bad before acting, by then it's too late.

How's your self isolation going now that you're back from Italy?

Working from home as a precaution, however I didn't go to one the infected areas, and the current advice was for after my trip.
What was strange though, is that we were all temperature checked before entering Italy. On return to the UK return zero checks being done. AFAIK they still aren't. Very quick and easy to do with thermal imaging.

You have to look at the evidence and act upon it. it's a balancing act. Personal responsibility is as bigger factor than any decree from government. At the moment they have got it about right.

Public Health England and the Chief Medical Officer probably know better than us on the correct course of action here.

Let's hope so eh? After all the've dealt with many of these situations before. An over reaction is better than a an under reaction.

Over reaction can be just as damaging, or even worse, as is already being demonstrated by the sheer stupidness of so many people.

Re: Coronavirus
This is worrying
Top surgeon tests positive for coronavirus and may have infected hundreds of patients after return from Italy
A TOP British surgeon who has tested positive for coronavirus may have infected hundreds of vulnerable patients as he failed to self-isolate after contracting the killer bug on holiday in Italy.
The senior surgeon at Liverpool’s Aintree University Hospital returned from a family skiing trip in northern Italy last week.

They won't want to damage the economy.
The virus seems to be sparing kids and killing the elderly/ill, leading conspiracy theorists to believe that this has been purposefully done to rid the world of chronically sick, disabled and elderly people who are no longer economically active.
