				Radio Reciver Wire on TV

			Hi

I have a radio reciver ntl cable wire that should go into my hi-fi. What would happen if I plugged it into a TV would it get the analoge channels or just pick to normal UHF 5 channels crystal clear. Or would it just pick up nothing.

Please help me becuase I would like to try it out.

			Hi,

You are only going to get signals in the 88-108MHz range(FM Radio) on the cable you speak of, this is becuase the FM port on a NTL wall plate is fed from a splitter which filters all higher frequencies from the cable.

If the NTL wiring hasn't been tampered with then no you'll get nothing.

Well, your TV shouldn't blow up so go on, just plug it in & try it.
that will satisfy your curiosity.

It won't work! The cable will give the TV channels, as what comes down both wires (the FM one and TV one) is exactly the same (they're split at the box).

What is important here is what is actually being pumped down the wire and that is the TV signals (for digital if you're on that, plus the analogue channels) plus the FM feed.

As your TV doesn't receive FM signals (I'm assuming it doesn't, I've not heard of one that does) there would be no way of hearing them on the TV (unless you bought a bit of kit that would modulate them to UHF frequencies - in which case it's cheaper to buy a radio tuner!)

It's the same as saying that by plugging in a TV antenna into a radio and expecting the soundtrack of BBC1 to appear on the radio!

Actually, there are TVs (generally older ones) that can tune into the VHF range as well as UHF. The VHF range (or at least part of it) is what's used by FM radio signals. But regardless, you can't listen to FM radio on your TV (some portables excepted).

I don't think the original poster wanted to listen to the radio on his TV though, but rather just get the analogue FTV channels without having to use a splitter. As has been said, this can't be done.

And regarding getting the soundtrack to BBC1 though the radio link-up... in the days of yore, some cablecos used to have a radio station on the FM link-up that carried the audio for the movie channels, on the basis that your stereo would provide better audio than your TV (and I don't think they carried NICAM back then). So it's not that far-fetched. I think the Sky Movies audio is still active in some areas -- although next to useless now with digital and the two-second delay.

Well you could try a Philips 32PW6006C. It doesn't take the FM from the UHF feed, though.

On my Bush tv I can get Radio 1 becuase it picks up the VHF band as well. The TV I want to try it on is a portable TV and FM radio so it would only work on the FM part of the tv
