		| Comcast has approached Rupert Murdoch’s 21st Century Fox to explore a potential combination between the two media companies a week after it emerged that Fox had held similar talks with Walt Disney. Mr Murdoch’s willingness to engage in discussions with potential acquirers signals that he is considering a break-up of the media empire that took him decades to assemble, according to people familiar with the matter.

Now Verizon is showing interest in acquiring parts of Foxhttps://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...tv-film-assets
The Comcast and Verizon initiatives are seen as a reaction to the proposed AT&T-Warner deal which itself is seen as a reaction to Netflix and Amazon Prime. Comcast does have a pre-existing content company (NBC Universal) but Verizon doesn't.

Comcast has its roots in cable TV whilst Verizon and AT&T are the equivalents of BT in America ie traditional telephony, IPTV and mobile businesses.

Interesting times and adds another dimension to the Sky-Fox ongoing situation.

The Comcast deal makes perfect sense it would allow Comcast to take control of Hulu and launch it globally whilst giving it a large subscriber base in Europe. It also gives it control of a lot more content.

So no guarantee that it would allow Comcast to take control of Hulu; the other owner Disney may get first refusal to buy Fox's shares if Fox changed hands.
