V6 known problems

Hi, I'm new to this forum and thinking of moving to virgin from sky.

I understand the V6 box is new, but are there any known problems I should be aware of?

Maybe have a look in the V6 box issues thread.

Not a lot in that thread - surely someone must have encountered problems other than movies not all in HD?

Re: V6 known problems

That is good to hear.

A few questions I have:

1. Can you set manual recordings (i.e. 7pm to 11:45pm on bbc1 irrespective of the EPG)?

2. Can you customise the EPG to show only your favourite channels?

3. Can you add a number of minutes before and after recordings?

4. If so, Can you specify the number of minutes or is it fixed?

5. The write-up says you can download 'some' recordings to 'compatible' tablets. Any idea which recordings you can/cannot download and is the ipad2 compatible?

6. Is it possible to either get a V6 with more than 1Tb disk space, or is it possible to upgrade it yourself?

7. Can you view/record sky sports in UHD?

8. Is it possible to reduce space taken by a recording by editing the recording i.e to remove before/after and half time in a football match? (This is possible on my Panasonic recorder)

I am sure I will have others before I decide but am grateful for any replies.

Thanks for the prompt reply, this clarifies most of my queries, apart from the downloadable channels - there is no mention of sky sports or BT sports channels either way.

These are the channels I would mostly want to download - Are you able to download these?

Is it possible to view content on the V6 box on a tv in a different room to the v6 box by using some sort of video sender?

Re: V6 known problems

You can't currently download Sky or BT Sports recordings to an iPad. But you can stream them from one TiVo to another.

A video sender wouldn't be easy to connect to a V6 because it doesn't have a SCART video output. But if you have a second TiVo (either a V6 or one of the older boxes), you can stream content from one to the other.

I'm confused as the v6 box has a socket on the back which is labelled as scart (although it isn't a big clunky one like sky+HD has - more of a roundish one - new scart format or mislabelled?

The V6 box also has a usb port - chap in virgin shop says you can move recordings onto a subsidiary disk to save space then retrieve them later to watch.

Is this true or sales talk?

Re: V6 known problems

A round SCART socket?

SCART (from Syndicat des Constructeurs d'Appareils Radiorécepteurs et Téléviseurs – Radio and Television Receiver Manufacturers' Association) is a French-originated standard and associated 21-pin connector for connecting audio-visual (AV) equipment.

^^^ now you know who to blame for such a cr@p connector style ^^^

Re: V6 known problems

The SCART socket is intended for use in countries where HDMI isn't common. It's not enabled when the box is running TiVo software.

Why not just enable it anyway?

Because then we might use it

On a serious note if the hardware is already built in, apart from spitefulness why isn't it enabled?
