Heinz beans advert banned by advertising watchdog

Quote:
A Heinz beans advert showing how to beat out a song on tin cans has been banned for health and safety reasons.

The advertisement featured young people and adults using empty or full tins to make the rhythm of a song, with the catchline "#Learn the CanSong".

The Advertising Standards Authority ruled that mistakes might be made that could lead to people cutting their hands or fingers.

Kraft Heinz denied that the advertising campaign posed a risk.
However the HSE has stated.

Quote:
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) said it would not contradict the ruling, but its chairman Martin Temple said: "It does look like the term health and safety has been used incorrectly here".

He added: "We would hope the public realise there are absolutely no regulations preventing children from playing with empty sealed tin cans.

"One thing kids never lack is imagination to invent their own games with the simplest of props. Obviously if a child is playing with a jagged edge on a tin container there is a risk of injury, but we would hope parents manage that risk."

Re: Heinz beans advert banned by advertising watchdog

TBH with young kids in our house it was the possibility they might "learn" to chuck full cans around the house that I found slightly concerning.

Re: Heinz beans advert banned by advertising watchdog

From the headline I had expected it to be something along the lines of someone in a bikini pouring beans down their chest, then saw it was Anna Kendrick doing that annoying song

Our can opener cuts through the rim so leaves no sharp edges on lid or can.

Re: Heinz beans advert banned by advertising watchdog

I do find some complaints and reasons for adverts getting banned to be frankly ridiculous.

It's been running for ages AFAIK, surely it would have outlived its usefulness by now?

If they are going to ban adverts they should ban the nefarious financial loan shark type adverts.

Re: Heinz beans advert banned by advertising watchdog

I find some decisions for 'Health and Safety' reasons total BS.

some people have got to wear some balls. Next we will hear that due to HS, if it rains, councils have to put slopes on pavements, to save us slipping over.

Its like in prisons - yes, l used to work in prisons. Prisoners are NOT allowed to clean anything over six feet, due to HS grounds.

Re: Heinz beans advert banned by advertising watchdog

Its political correctness gawn mad I should think.

Anyway, never mind beans they should ban shop staff playing footy with tins of chopped tomatoes. Every tin in every supermarket is dented. Just chopped tomatoes for some reason , they must be able to volley them better.

Then you were mis-informed. most H&S "law" isnt law at all. The HSE dosnt actually make law just recommendations. It is absulutly fine to breach most HSE reccommendation providing you carry out a risk assesiment and mittigate those risks. FYI most HSE reccommendations dealing with at height deal with above head height (though items of weight (25kg+) are from ground). I'm so glad im self empolyed. i dont need to give a crap about HSE, as long as my finished product is safe how i do it dont matter
