After I asked the question, he did say that when this is activated, "you'll be able to stream anywhere in the house".

Yes, with Sky Q you can stream recordings or live TV to up to 2 mini boxes and 2 tablets at the same time, with no impact on recordings.

 | You can already stream recordings and On Demand from V6 to the iOS version of the TV Anywhere app. I have done so to my iPad Mini.
What is missing is an updated version of the Android TV Anywhere app with this function, I think.

All networked devices such as phones, computers, tablets etc. have a unique MAC address.

 | Ahhh right. He seemed to think that it hadn't been enabled at all yet.

My tablets are Android (not that the engineer who called me knew this) so I guess it won't work anyway. TV Anywhere certainly doesn't

The app on the iPad/iPhone looks exactly like the interface on the main box. There are options to download a show to the main box or to the iPad/iPhone or to "watch online".

For VOD (not recordings, which you can only access when at home, or if you download to your iPad/iPhone while at home), the options are exactly the same whether connected to your home network or to 3G/4G, so I suspect the stream is direct to the tablet/phone.
