Sky prefers to piggy back on everybody else's infrastructure and has done for some time.

Agree bud but difference is BT are investing in getting channels and content and are listening to what customers want, not sure how true it is but their sales team did tell me "they are in talks with SKY that's all they can say at this point"
Also BT unlike vm offer a 4g mobile service, faster upload speeds on broadband without the need to sign up for a premium product, BT like vm already increased their bae line fibre speeds but bt offer 55mbs at base level, vm offer 50mbs? or is it 30?
BT are working on a new box that will alledgedly be a game changer, they are also looking to buy youview in a £60millon deal, BT were the first to offer a 4k channel, vm are the second from last to offer 4k talktalk are last.
VM are however showing some good intent with looking to purchase more on demand content but as we all know vm drag their feet and someone like SKY or BT could easily come along and take the content right from beneath vms nose and vm will say 2we tried but the network wanted too much money." which is a load of bull imo.
I tink BT will overtake VM in content however i think vm will remain a strong leading company for broadband.
The point of this i guess is all companies have their strong and weak points.
The youview box rips vms tivo to shreds imo but the new vm tivo will change all of that one thing is for certain buckle up it's going to be a rollercoaster of a ride.

Sky has no mobile presence but two TV platforms. VM has only a miniscule original content presence. Each company has its strengths but these will probably narrow over time.

SKY will be launching their mobile brand next year, i believe they now own o2?

I think in a way all of the big 3 (i say big 3 because i don't count talktalk as a big player in tv) piggy back on each others service one way or another all use the sattelite system to recieve channels, bt and vm use EE network for mobile although BT now own EE, Sky use openreach for broadband etc.

The lack of Fox and Sky basics doesn't make BT's TV packages particularly attractive.

It would be stronger if they didn't take forever to deal with oversubscribed areas.

I suspect that's down to Sky trying to undermine their product to make it less competitive ala Sky Atlantic.

They don't even have Sky One but yes, probably Sky's way of punishing BT for not allowing Sky to resell the BT Sport channels. Whatever the reason, it does mean that many potential viewers will be less likely to take pay TV services from BT.

Sony seem to be going for really cheap carriage deals, e.g. using the local TV multiplexes on Freeview rather than the national ones.
With True Drama morphing into True Entertainment +1 and True Movies 2 morphing into True Movies/Christmas +1, they now have less to offer VM. Perhaps they also have planned changes for the Sony Movies channel, maybe merging it with Movie Mix?

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2016) Vol 2
Anyone concerned about the lack of Viceland on VM should be reassured by this!
Quote:
Financial Times Viceland UK suffers viewer switch-off TV channel for millennials drops to zero viewers in debut fortnight.
Vice Media’s television channel Viceland has suffered a slow start in the UK, including periods with no viewers, in stark contrast to its chief executive’s conviction that it would bring millennials back to TV.
|
But it looks to be on its way to VM
Quote:
Currently, Viceland is only available via Sky, to which less than half of that demographic [16 to 34-year-olds] have access, but Vice plans to broaden its reach through other networks, including BT and Virgin, in the coming months.

I watched a programme about boxing in Ghana that was fascinating. Other than that I can't relate to the channel at all. Way too Americanised. I get the feeling people at Viceland are watching what is trending on Social Media then making programs to reflect the trends. Problem being is by the time they've made said program the Social Media generation have moved on to the next big thing.
Terrible channel, terrible programming with very little appeal. The boxing program I watched was only about 21 mins long. Other than that, since launch, its been gash. Google gash for those outwith Scotland

And there was us thinking you are watching all your streaming services and was not interested in watching any linear channels OB.

The placeholder for BBC3 (106) has now been removed, along with the ability to view recordings.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2016) Vol 2
We have seen the rumour on Fox News Channel launching on Virgin Media UK on October 12th.
https://www.tvchannellists.com/List_...coming_changes
FACT:
1) The only launch date we have confirmed is Autumn 2016.
2) Fox News Channel (As of October 4th) is NOT doing any broadcasting testing.

Is Sony not broadcasting the same Movies on both channels - but not at the same time.
We read it somewhere months ago.
