I'm usually pessimistic about most things VM but just for a change I'll try some optimistic speculation.
Perhaps if BT want to keep Virgin happy after the EE complaint they might agree to give Virgin access to BT Sport 4K later this year.

Actually that's a silly idea, I'll go back to be being a pessimist. Normal service resumed |

I think the EE-VM - BT Sport issue just shows we're in the silly season for news! I think both VM and BT need one another but they're competitors so their frustrations will boil over from time to time. I'm surprised this came out in the press though as it only publicises EE's offer.

BT and Virgin Media UK need each other. Contracts are in place. They'll sort this out. Nothing to see here. Move along now...

Whatever way we dress it up Andrew the Sports rights are killing pay tv and aren't sustainable long term in my opinion.
Sky and VM are having to give out huge discounts to keep people and are both actively discounting Sky Sports just to get more interested.

 | Obviously, Sky and BT feel differently or they wouldn't have invested those massive sums. This season sees the start of the new Premier League TV rights contracts so it will be interesting to see how things develop.

But at the moment, they know that the fans will grudgingly stump up that little bit extra each time. Look for the people with huge grins on their faces and driving very expensive cars. Here's a clue; it aint the regular fans.

Even if relatively few are interested in this channel, it's probably inexpensive and increases the count of 4K channels available (of which there aren't many to start with).

My bet

On demand 4K content e.g. drama/serials/events due to resent tie ups with All3Media and Endemol Shine

and perhaps a couple of channels from the Discovery Deal.

Discovery 4K

Eurosport 4K

Not sure where this optimism is coming from, must be the weather and Olympic feel good effect,

There is currently only one UK based 4K channel and that is BT, Sky 4K isn't actually a channel, it is just currently extra content accessible when something in 4K is available... ie it doesn't have an EPG slot.
