Superhub Business broadband Modem Mode Setup

Hi all

I have a cisco 2821 router. I need to put my super hub into modem mode I have 5 static ip's

Atm when I last tried it never connected when it was in modem mode and I had to leave it in normal mode and give the router one of my 5 static ip addresses.

Does anyone k ow how this should wor in modem mode.

it can't. I remember the exact names for them but there are two services; one with one static ip and one with 5. You can use the single ip service in modem mode and the ip will be passed to the one device on the other end. If you have the 5 ip option you have got to use the shub in routed subnet mode for everything to work. I am going to send a pm to another forum user who has this service and he might be able to explain it better.

I have the same setup but with a Cisco 897 with the 5 static IP addresses from VMB. Firstly it won't work in modem mode with multiple static IP addresses, and indeed the latest firmware for the business SH1 removes the option for modem mode again for this reason.

I assume that you need a config where you have a public IP address on the WAN port of the Cisco router? This is exactly the config I have.

The way to configure this is to have your VMB SH1 in router mode. With multiple statics it will not perform any NAT, and if you turn off the firewall and rely on the Cisco for that it does actually work well in this config.

The very first IP address in the block you have been given will be used by the LAN side of the SH1, and DHCP will be OFF. So then configure your Cisco routers WAN port with the next IP in your range, with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.248.

You will then need to set up a static default route on the Cisco pointing at the IP address of the VMB Superhub.

Lastly configure the Cisco to perform NAT for you and any firewall or filtering you want and you should be up and running.

In this config if you need any office to office VPNs setup you can do that on the Cisco router as it now has a public IP address on it's WAN port.

Let me know how you get on if you need a sample Cisco config I can turn mine into a template you could use if need be.
