Woman sent home for refusing to wear high heels at work
http://www.itv.com/news/london/2016-...ar-high-heels/
I put this under two classes.
Is it sexist, and the other down right stupid.
I think the reason the company insist of females wearing High Heels, to make them look sexy. And yes, l don't mind admitting, a Pretty woman looks very good looking in High Heels.
But, l have never heard of it being part of a 'uniform' as such.
Can you imagine men going to work, wearing a mini skirt
I would love it if my wife, wore high heels

Re: I call this stupidty
I believe the law states the employers can only enforce 'reasonable' dress codes and they might have a hard time trying to argue why high heels are a requirement for an office job rather than flat shoes.

Re: I call this stupidty
How appropriate that the " managing director " of the company responsible for this ridiculous rule should be called simon PRATT.
And Arthur.....
try buying your wife some heels

Re: I call this stupidty
Actually the real sexism is that it is extremely unlikely that a man would hired for the job in the first place. And if he was, he would almost certainly have dress guidelines to follow, eg suit and tie.

It's not an office job. A receptionist is on view and it was an agency that employed her. The dress code would have to be set to deal with a wide range of customers and their requirements.

Normally, you can't see a receptionist's feet...

. What does that mean? Do you have to be a looker then?
What customer requirements could there possibly be that require high heels?
However, I must admit that the photos in the article are a bit strange though. Did the objectified victim have modelling and publicity ambitions.

It is a general dress code. The specific clients and the setting will be unknown at the time.

Re: Woman sent home for refusing to wear high heels at work
Well I think that a class action on behalf of all women left with crippling foot issues due to the wearing of high heels might make a few companies review their dress code..Plus I would report them to the local Health and Safety..
It's a long way from the 60s and 70s when some firms banned stiletto heels because of damage to their buildings floors..

No surprise as they were made to look stupid over it.

Do you wear "those" shorts as well.
Enforcing killer heels does seem excessive. What if her doctor had advised against wearing them on medical grounds?

Same as any other job that required something.
Somehow I doubt she would have complained if an acting job came along that required her to be in 2in heels all day long.

She is complaining about wearing the shoes, not about the job.
