This thread we are in now could run forever as long as the information in it is changing. Ultimately it's just a thread title or am I missing something???

Really there was no reason for a part 2 thread. The original one could have continued. Take out the year and the thread could just keep running.

Some official but thin news
http://buff.ly/1rPCmbA
Virgin Media has today confirmed that it will be launching a 4K set-top box later this year with an upgraded box to replace its current TiVO box, which it has been using since 2011.
Details are thin on the ground so there is no word yet on whether the box will be UHD Premium certified, whether it will be HDR compatible, or whether it will have a more basic feature set of just a UHD resolution.
It is also not yet clear how Virgin plans on distributing content to the device, whether it will be an internet-based solution, or whether UHD channels will broadcast alongside HD and SD channels and be delivered over cable.
We have contacted Virgin Media to ask it for clarification on both these points, and will update this article when it responds.
As the operator of a fibre network which offers speeds of up to 200Mbps, Virgin's network meets current bandwidth requirements for delivering 4K streams over the internet. Netflix currently recommends at least 25mbps for its UHD content.

Also from what hi fi
10th May 2016
image: http://images.cdn.whathifi.com/sites...?itok=dPj9O1Iq
The cable TV company says it will update its ageing TiVO HD set-top box this year, and is developing a 4K version to take on Sky Q.
The recent launch of Sky Q has left the cable TV operator Virgin Media trailing in its wake.
Given that it was 2011 when we first reviewed the original Virgin TiVO box, many would argue that an upgrade is long overdue.
Now Virgin Media has confirmed a 4K set-top box is in development and due for release in 2016. A spokesman told What Hi-Fi?: “There will be a new set-top box coming later this year, and it will support Ultra High Definition video.
"Before that we will be updating the existing TiVO set-top box to make its menus slicker and more picture-based.”
It is also believed Virgin is working on an upgrade to its existing series link feature that will include on-demand programmes from Netflix and other sources
That makes the TiVO box, with its three tuners and standard high definition, look rather miserly in comparison. The new Virgin 4K box is expected to offer a similar ability to Sky Q, allowing users to start watching a programme on a TV in one room, and then continue watching on a smartphone or tablet elsewhere.
Sadly no estimate

After what has been announced I thought for a laugh I'll ask Virgin media and got three responses
1. There is no plans for upgrade to our fantastic TiVo and what I must be thinking about is software and is still superior to sky Q
2. No new TiVo and shouldn't listen to hype
3. There is a new TiVo but not till 2018 as they are still at a design stage and don't know about any features till new year

1. There is no plans for upgrade to our fantastic TiVo and what I must be thinking about is software and is still superior to sky Q - biggest load of bs ever a new box is coming summer/autumn this year.
2. No new TiVo and shouldn't listen to hype - just like you shouldn't listen to vm sales reps.
3. There is a new TiVo but not till 2018 as they are still at a design stage and don't know about any features till new year - again load of bs

Agreed, and the ungrammatical phrase 'there is no plans' should shoot up considerable warning signs!
There will be a new box this year, the only question seems to be whether it will be a Tivo or Horizon box. I had assumed it would be a Tivo because the contract had been extended, but of course we don't know the nature of that contract and whether it just related to the continued maintenance of existing boxes provided by Virgin Media.

Indeed that is the vexed question? on what will be coming and may the speculation begin.

I might be wrong but I think one won't have 4K and one will. I assume different boxes have different amounts of tuners and 4K box have more storage
