I would agree but TiVo is so old and clunky now ( the new TiVo was is testing near end last year) it's not worth it but here is what we know for 2016

No new TiVo for 2016
No date for new software update, maybe this year maybe not
No new channels apart from QVC channels
Probably faster broadband (wow )

If you don't need 200mb, don't mind a upfront fee, would prefer 8 tuners, watch tv recordings on the go and also download them and use a faster more responsive box, why would you stay with virgin media then that is a question, if you was a new customer what would you do

Hit the nail on the head there, not sky or vm related but i was one of the first with a firetv box and it took awhile for decent apps to arrive on it.

When companies are in competition they are not going to give much away apart from a few subtle hints perhaps.

I know I've got one in my front room

A quick hands on is all well and good but to really experience a system it needs to be used day to day in the home environment.

Whilst I'm more than impressed with Sky Q it certainly has bugs that need fixing.

Ipad connectivity issues
Blank screen on playback of a couple of recordings

At the moment I'd say Sky Q needs a couple more stability updates before we've got a more reliable build.

I know but when virgin are mucking around with the aging TiVo. When sky are promoted heavily and virgin are focusing on only QVC, signing new TiVo customers and again faster broadband it worries me

Try and load Netflix on Sky Q you'll be in for an even longer wait.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2016)

A lot of negativity on here today on an article that is basically good news. I presume that the revelation that the new Tivo won't be out until the turn of the year has deflated some, but at least we now know, according to a man who should know, that the advent of Sky Q's rival is coming. (Soon).

The really good news I picked out of the Telegraph article was:
  • John Malone concluded after a short time that the business he inherited was deficient on the TV side and concluded that the previous regime's strategy on not owning content was flawed. He therefore recruited David Bouchier as chief digital entertainment officer to 'reinvigorate Virgin Media's pay-TV business.
The new Virgin Media exclusives that have arrived on our 'On Demand' system are a result of his involvement and 'there is much more to come'.
There is recognition that the existing TIVO is 'clunky and unintuitive'.
It is confirmed that the user interface will be overhauled, and not just on the new Tivos.
The new features to assist navigation, including Series Link +, will be available on the existing Tivo this year.
The new TIVO will be able to provide ultra-high-definition pictures and 'a similar ability (to Sky Q) to sling programmes to tablets and smartphones around the home'.
There will be 'a major overhaul of the ageing plumbing that powers Virgin Media's broadcasting'. This will allow them to shift to the next generation distribution system which is Horizon. (Currently this has only half the storage capacity for recordings, so hopefully this will be rectified by the time it gets here).
Virgin Media could even re-purchase UKTV.
In line with the linear TV arguments I have been putting forward, David Bouchier clarifies that 'on demand programming on multiple screens is "the future of our business".'

I know that most of those reading the coming soon thread want all this jam yesterday, but I am excited by the fact that we now know for sure what Virgin Media is planning to do in the short term. I see nothing in this item to be pessimistic about - until now they hadn't promised anything!

Hi listen I don't think we want is all yesterday but even a date for the new software is not too much to ask for

---------- Post added at 14:22 ---------- Previous post was at 13:49 ----------

I think personally at the end of the day, virgin media customers see nothing in the way of improvements unless it's about broadband.

We was given a app for free that I don't personally like but slow to navigate like YouTube

We got four music channels I thought good till they come in a app that you can't record from at all.

Loads of channels on freeview, sky, freesat that we don't even have yet.

We get two other versions of QVC ( Christ )

Still can't watch recordings on the move or even to anywhere app won't work on 3G.

Apps yes it's a old box but still as this is around for another year then not great that apps are slow.

I'm trying to find anything constructive virgin has done apart from vevo app in last 12 months oh soz another broadband speed increase which if they put as much time and interest into tv content, PVR boxes and staying current as they do with broadband we would be better off

...And look at what happens when they tell us what is planned and so many are aghast at the timespan! And yet, if they waited until Christmas and then said a new box was coming out in January, everyone would be ecstatic.

VM can't win, really.

What ever they do next whenever that is one thing is clear and that is they must get it right or they will probably lose more TV customers else.

That's simply not true. Broadband has certainly received priority this last year, but have you forgotten 2014 already, which was the year we were provided with a huge number of additional channels? Judging by the article in the Telegraph, it looks as though once more the TV side is being given priority now, so you should be pleased.

One thing we all have to understand though is that new content is likely to be provided in future via VOD/streaming. Amazon has already agreed to provide their streaming services on the Tivo in the US, and this tells me that it is only a matter of time before it gets added to our services as well. The advent of a vastly improved STB over the coming year, which should speed everything up, will make streaming more attractive on the VM system.
