Are they the rumours about Sky Sports Mix or something else?

I'd say you will be charged half of the new price in the same way that you were for the old price.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2016)

get yourself a NOW TV box, you will save a small fortune! Ok it maybe isn't full HD, but it's a great picture in my house, If you pick up the newer black box, it now has Ethernet connection, and 1080p setting.

I Just set my parents up with a three month deal at £3.99 a month.

Then pick up your passes on Ebay, I rarely pay more than £4 a month.

And lose the ability to record ...

I had a NOW box, and the picture was perfect for my needs, but not having the ability to record caused problems.

I will probably go back to NOW when my Movies / Sports deal ends in September - the price rise imposed has really taken sports away from the average viewer

The box is capable of 1080p, but live TV is sent as SD and catchup/boxsets are limited to 720p.

It still outputs 720p (on-demand) or SD (live) though: http://help.nowtv.com/article/Streaming-Quality

If they offered a 1080 option for an extra couple of quid per month I'd go for it.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2016)

agreed, it is 720 output, it works for me, but i understand not everyone will like it.

as for recording, most current movies are available to stream in anycase. I dropped all my VM TV package about a month ago, and haven't missed a thing. Most of the shows i like(fox etc,) i watch as i want.

In fairness you do have to watch out for shows ending on NOW TV, some are limited availability, but generally it works for me and has saved my quite a bit on money.

I would be surprised if the contract they have with Sky for the channels allows them to undercut Sky's own price.

I don't think the cost that VM have to sell to their own customers would be in the contract. The important thing for Sky is getting the most money from VM.

Sky also know that they have a lot more coverage of the country than VM, so I don't think it would be a huge factor

Same here. I never watch the live SD output; always use catchup, and I think the 720p picture is quite acceptable.

I, ahem, "shaved my cord" and went to the M package back at the start of the year and also haven't really missed anything I can't get with Now TV + Netflix + Amazon.

The only big original programming channels still missing in the streaming world are SyFy, Universal, E, TLC, Sony, Lifetime, TCM, Cartoon Network and National Geographic. However, four of those are female-oriented channels I'm not really interested in, Natgeo I assume will join Now TV at some point as it's owned by Fox, TCM films are often on Netflix or Amazon, while SyFy, Universal and Cartoon Network all have shows on Amazon, albeit later on.

Then there's the four UKTV pay channels excluding Gold that Now TV has, but almost all of that programming has been on the BBC or is on paid or free streaming services already. There's eight extra Discovery channels I think, but the decent premieres are still mostly on the main channel which Now TV has. The seven extra MTV channels are just showing videos you can get anywhere and the rest of the music channels can be streamed free. I think I counted 18 channels not in the M pack that are available elsewhere free to air or can be streamed. That just leaves sport and the 800 range channels, which aren't for me.

So it's really hard to find £24+ of extra value between Now TV and the XL pack, especially without Sky Atlantic.

.
I did the same a couple of years ago, using the same services as yourself.

About a month ago, I decided to spend an extra fiver a month and go from M TV to M+ TV as it gives me Alibi, W and Universal channel, which show some US dramas that I like, which are not available via the other services.
